Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Registered Nurse maintains safe patient care and advocates for patient safety in collaboration with staff, other departments, safety rounds findings, regulatory/risk management findings, system initiatives. This position effectively performs all nursing functions in an efficient manner and in accordance with policies, procedures, and the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
Schedule : This position is Monday - Friday from 8-5 or there is an option to do 4 10-hour shifts 7:30am to 6pm

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Communicates safety issues and actual or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms, and demonstrates shared accountability for safe practices.
• Effectively performs all nursing functions in an efficient manner and in accordance with policies, procedures, and the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
• Participates in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities using evidence based practice.
• Utilizes the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Works in conjunction with other care providers.
• Utilizes established protocols to manage phone, walk-in triage of patients to identify level of care needed, triage priority, and implementation of an appropriate plan of action.
• Provides, insures the provision of, patient care which reflects nursing intervention and takes into account patient response to care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals. Alters activities/behaviors ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e., pediatric, adolescent, adult, elderly)
• Documents assessments, and all other nursing activities (including medication administration) legally, legibly, concisely, descriptively per policy/procedure. Monitors follow-up of tests and lab studies done and notifies provider.
• Teaches patient/significant other appropriate health information and shares written informational material if available. Documentation includes evidence of appropriate patient/significant other teaching, and understanding of these instructions is documented in the medical record.
• Integrates cultural/population specific diversity needs into patient care as well as integrating physiological, psychological and cultural needs.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills in working with staff, patients/families, providers, other departments and external contacts.
• Delegates tasks appropriately, based on patient needs and staff skill sets.
• Able to supervise other staff, and assume supervisory functions in the absence of the Charge Nurse/Clinic Manager.
• Effectively acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal students. Serves as resource to staff.
• Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Promotes team-based care by utilizing the Eskenazi Health Model of Excellence (EME) tools.
Job Requirements
• Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse or eligibility for Indiana licensure
• A minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience is required
• CPR certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider preferred)
• TB certification is preferred.

• Skill in using/operating specialized equipment
• Competence/accountability in administering medications, treatments, performing tests
• Exhibits good communication skills to include effective listening and interviewing techniques
• Demonstrates knowledge of diseases/symptoms, usual treatments/ medications /interventions, current clinical concepts
• Demonstrates ability to function as member of the healthcare team and to delegate responsibilities/duties appropriately.
• Able to follow oral/written instructions and record/interpret information accurately.
• Demonstrates basic computer skills.
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills and can give rationale.
• Performs CPR when situation indicates.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, easily understood in both languages
