Job Role Summary

The Medical Transport Aide - Equipment Technician is responsible for locating and returning wheelchairs and transportation carts to their proper location. This position takes the lead in repairing wheelchairs and reports broken and defective equipment to the manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Locate and return wheelchairs and transportation carts to their proper location
  • Report broken and defective equipment to the manager
  • Take the lead in repairing wheelchairs
  • Clean and maintain wheelchairs and carts
  • Assist with transporting patients when needed
  • Assist with discharging patients to the hospital lobby and assist them into vehicles and taxis
  • Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients and visitors in the hospital environment
  • Participate in the Pet Therapy Program when patients request a visit

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Indiana Driver's license with motor vehicle record that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy standards
  • Current Indiana motor vehicle insurance
  • Completion of CPR certification within 2 months of employment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Centani system and its uses for equipment location
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handling
  • Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills
  • Good reasoning ability
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
  • Promptness, empathy and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers and staff
  • Excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated customer focus
  • Ability to assess patient needs during transport
  • Basic English reading and writing skills; bi-lingual is desired but not required
  • Knowledge of the Centani system and it's uses for equipment location
