Position Title

Fresh for You Market Volunteer Support

 

Summary

This non-paid volunteer opportunity will work with the Food and Nutrition Department of Eskenazi Health to support the daily operations of the Fresh for You Market and be a resource to patients, visitors, guests and staff.

The Eskenazi Health Fresh for You Market is a grocery store/food pantry hybrid model that serves as a self-sustaining model to address food insecurity. It is open to the public, and proceeds from traditional sales directly benefit the Eskenazi Health Fresh for You Market voucher program, which provides patients who screen as food insecure during clinical visits with vouchers to shop for free food at the Fresh for You Market. Cash, debit/credit cards, SNAP and EBT are other accepted forms of payment.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Commit to a minimum one 3 hours shift per week, between 6a.m. and 5:30p.m., Monday - Friday and be willing to volunteer in at least one of the following roles.
    • Stocking, Cleaning, Product Facing, 6a.m. - 10a.m. Monday - Friday
    • Greeter, Surveyor, Customer Assistance 9:30am - 5p.m., Monday - Friday
    • Cashiering, 9:30a.m. - 5p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Health Food & Nutrition Services and Eskenazi Health Volunteer Services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Must comply with HIPPA standards, policies and procedures of maintaining confidentiality of patient and medical information.

  • Greeter 
    • Greet guests as they enter the market.
    • Explain how the voucher program works if they have one with them.
    • Assist with finding items, provide surveys, show customers how to utilize tablets to look up additional resources such as the nearest pantry to where they live.
    • Utilize translation devices/resources for interacting with non-English speaking guests.
  • Stocking:
    • Stock product orders on shelves.
    • Rotate items based on date of expiration.
    • Face product on shelves so it looks appealing and organized, cleaning shelves and underneath shelves.
  • Cashier:
    • Provide support as a second cashier in the afternoons.
    • Ability to handle money and be comfortable using the cash register technology.  Training provided.
    • Check out guests.  Will training on cash handling system, including all forms of accepted payment
      • Volunteers will learn to key in the vouchers and other forms of payment that we accept.

  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Health Food & Nutrition Services and Eskenazi Health Volunteer Services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Volunteers are not permitted to:

  • Position or lift patients in/out of bed, chair or wheelchair.
  • Transport patients confined to hospital beds.
  • Communicate clinical information to patients, clients, visitors or family members.
  • Document clinical information.
  • Interpret/translate clinical information in another language.

 

Requirements:

  • Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Should be able to lift a gallon of milk or a 3lb bag of frozen meet.  
  • Be able to stand for periods of time, sit down breaks permitted.
  • Successful completion of the application, interview, online volunteer orientation, and position specific departmental training.
  • Volunteers will be required to submit to a criminal background inquiry and Occupational Health Screening.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Should have, at least, basic computer skills, with a willingness to learn how to operate various computer programs.
