Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Strategy Business Analyst has the primary responsibility of providing analysis and insight into potential and active complex initiatives that support the growth and development of Eskenazi Health. The incumbent understands the local and national marketplace and utilizes a strategic, data-driven approach to assess opportunities for the health system to improve upon the delivery of our mission, vision and values. With overall direction from the Director, the Analyst is responsible for researching and evaluating strategic opportunities such as operational improvements, external partnerships, or expanded service offerings. The incumbent will continuously seek and analyze opportunities to grow or diversify revenue streams across the health system.
The Strategy Business Analyst is a member of a team that serves as internal consultants for Eskenazi Health. The incumbent participates in and facilitates strategic analysis and decision-making about requested initiatives or business/service line decisions. This role includes supporting the creation of a five year strategic plan, developing support from key leaders, and supporting the marketing effort of the strategic plan. The incumbent conducts appropriate data collection, market intelligence and business analysis and lends subject matter expertise to the business development and strategic planning process and also engages internal/external expertise as required. The incumbent identifies software, and databases that support the Eskenazi mission and the role of the Business Development and Strategy function.
This position collaborates with Marketing, Operations, and Clinical leadership to identify and evaluate initiatives that increase patient acquisition across inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient services. The incumbent ensures strategies are appropriately aligned and prioritized across the system (e.g. population health, bundled care, alternative payment models, employer strategies, etc.).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Evaluates and understands the health system’s performance, as well as our local and national marketplace, and utilizes a strategic, data-driven approach to assess opportunities for the health system to improve upon the delivery of our mission, vision and values
- Responsible for initial and on-going data collection and reporting of data that supports advancing the assessment and execution of the system’s strategy
- Conducts and maintains comprehensive, professional and credible research analysis that assists in strategic decision-making
- Develops standard monthly, quarterly and annual reports to senior leadership that highlight internal and external trends and opportunities
- As directed and in partnership with key stakeholders, develops compelling business cases that support moving initiatives from idea through successful execution
- Supports efforts to prioritize, fund and execute clinical and operational initiatives
- Analytically monitors performance and results of executed initiatives through the creation of pro-forma plans and concrete success metrics
- Educates stakeholders and customers on the use of data to analyze potential opportunities; transparent source of information
- Utilizes analytical techniques to understand the root cause of issues and improvement opportunities
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Demonstrates appropriate leadership and stylistic techniques when working with complex customer and stakeholder groups
- Participates in the implementation of work redesign to meet the organization’s strategic goals
- Collaborates with supporting/extender departments such as analytics, project management and continuous improvement
- Utilizes and improves the information systems within the assigned areas
- Participates in or informs contract negotiation, as appropriate
- Assists with the operational and business planning portion of all bundled payment initiatives
- Participates in new program development and existing program evaluation for assigned service lines
- Provides operational, financial and business management and reporting support of activities and responsibilities for all assigned areas
Job Requirements
- Three years of experience in healthcare operations and data analysis required
- Candidates with an MBA or MHA from an accredited program are strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
