Opportunity Overview:
Eskenazi Health is seeking a skilled and collaborative Senior Labor Relations Consultant to join our Human Resources team. In this key role, you will serve as a liaison between HR and AFSCME union leadership, fostering strong communication, interpreting labor agreements, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and union contracts.
You will provide expert guidance to supervisors and employees by explaining HR policies, union agreements, and procedures, while supporting issue resolution and promoting a positive work environment.
This position also contributes to the development and administration of programs and policies that align employee performance and behavior with Eskenazi Health’s strategic goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains trusting relationships with staff and management, creating a work environment where employees can feel safeguarded. This is a crucial component to retaining staff and improving their efficiency
- Facilitates communication and serves as a point of contact for both HR and union representatives, ensuring smooth and effective communication regarding employee concerns, policy changes, and contract negotiations.
- Assists in resolving employee grievances, acting as a mediator between employees and management, and ensuring fair and equitable outcomes.
- Provides an interpretation of the terms of the union agreement and is responsible for understanding the union agreement and ensuring that all parties are following them.
- Partners with leaders and employees to assist with problem solving, explaining policies and procedures
- Trains new leaders with union eligible employees on the grievance process and the AFSCME labor agreement
- Participates in the bi-weekly union president meeting
- Investigates allegations made in grievances and/or complaints
- Prepares leaders for their grievance hearings and works with leaders on their grievance responses
- Completes the AFSCME Investigation Summary Forms as requested
- Maintains grievance data and monitors trends to share with ER team and leadership
- Assists with the development and administration of programs, procedures and guidelines to align employee performance/behavior with strategic goals
- Reports sensitive and/or high-profile issues timely to HR management
- Meets with employees and leaders on performance concerns and provides guidance
- Responds to HR Shared Services employee requests for information within 2 business days
- Performs other duties as assigned
Am I Qualified:
Accredited Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology or other related field with at least two (2) years’ Labor/Employee Relations experience preferred; OR Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources with at least 2 years in Labor/Employee Relations may be accepted in lieu of education.
- SHRM Certified Professional/PHR desired
