Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

Provides Spanish medical interpretations when appropriate to various clinics and/or departments within the hospital. Serves as a patient advocate for monolingual Spanish speaking patients that require assistance. Maintains a daily call log to track services provided and submit reports monthly.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values.
  • Interprets for all assigned areas within Eskenazi Health.
  • Advocates for Hispanic patients and their families.
  • Provides information concerning community resources.
  • Documents all interpretations/encounters.
  • Establishes and maintain sopen communication with various internal and external resources.
  • Works with patients, families, health providers and other social service offices within Eskenazi Health.
  • Participates in community events and health fairs when needed.
  • Sights translations if and when called upon.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred in any Human Services related profession.
  • Three years of related experience and education will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Preferably one to two years of experience working with the Hispanic Community within a social service agency or healthcare setting.
  • Trained in medical terminology in both English and Spanish.
  • Has taken Bridging the Gap or a comparable course.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Bicultural in the English and Spanish cultures.
  • Strong medical terminology in both English and Spanish.
  • Good interpersonal communications skills in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of social environment/agency resources, organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
