Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Network Engineer to lead the architecture, deployment, and support of complex enterprise network infrastructures with a strong focus on Cisco technologies, Layer 3 routing, Layer 2 switching, and Layer 2 extension protocols (e.g., VXLAN, OTV, EVPN). This role requires deep technical expertise in Cisco hardware and software platforms as well as advanced knowledge of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network access control and policy enforcement.
As a key member of the network engineering team, you will design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient network solutions across on-premises data centers, and healthcare facilities in the Indianapolis area. The ideal candidate is a Cisco expert with proven experience leading enterprise-grade projects, optimizing performance, and ensuring secure and seamless connectivity across Layer 2/3 networks.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values
- Serves as a technical resource and ensures proper operations with regard to network architecture, planning, implementation, maintenance and problem resolution for all data resources within Eskenazi Health; defines, maintains and applies best practices for data resources
- Performs systems and/or network designs as requested or required
- Participates in planning, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of all data resources
- Prepares and delivers written and oral training presentations to personnel at all organizational levels as required to explain functionality of data resources
- Examines and monitors all data resources to determine whether the business needs of the institution are being met, and plans or recommends system changes/expansion based on this information; prepares reports on utilization and performance of all systems, networks and data resources
- Develops systems, networks or data resource upgrade pathways
- Creates and maintains all system, network or data resource documentation; responsible for day-to-day operational activities of all systems, networks and data resources; serves as primary technical resource and contact for security and access standards for requisite assigned engineering areas
- Maintains daily logs concerning any variations of systems, networks and data resources
- Communicates with other Information Services staff and management regarding all technical aspects of data resources
- Works with peer organizations as technical expert on interoperation of all applicable data resources
- Works with technical vendor resources to achieve assigned goals regarding all engineering aspects of data resources
- Participates as member of Tier III in 7x24 after hours on call rotation
- Ensures planning, timely execution and proper resourcing of all project level work as assigned, including acting in a project manager capacity for medium to large technical projects
- Consistently demonstrates strong ability to multi-task
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or a minimum of seven years varied/related experience in a hospital or large institution data processing environment may be accepted in lieu of educational requirements
- Expert-level knowledge of Cisco routing and switching technologies (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLAN, STP, HSRP/VRRP, MPLS).
- Hands-on experience with Layer 2 extension technologies such as VXLAN, OTV, and EVPN in a production environment.
- Strong experience with Cisco ISE: design, deployment, and ongoing administration.
- CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent Cisco certifications preferred.
- Experience with network automation (Python, Ansible) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to lead projects and cross-functional initiatives.
