Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Security Officer II participates in investigation and resolution of crimes and the apprehension of offenders. This position responds to alarms both inside the hospital and off-site facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•    Demonstrates knowledge of applicable hospital policies, all departmental policies and general orders
•    Conducts follow-up investigations
•    Participates in solution of crimes and apprehension of offenders; responds to alarms both inside the hospital and off-site facilities
•    Provides direction and/or assistance to employees, visitors and patients, and checks for required identification
•    Directs emergency traffic
•    Directs visitors, patients and employees to requested areas; provides escorts as needed or requested
•    Provides emergency response to security fire alarms at off-site facilities
•    Ensures general safety and security of persons and property on hospital grounds 
•    Patrols hospital area and environment
•    Assists in restraint of unruly or disorderly personnel
•    Reports activities, security/safety conditions
•    Patrols hospital and surrounding areas to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry, reporting unusual conditions or malfunctions to appropriate supervisory personnel
•    Reports fire or disaster and performs security and evacuation services as outlined in hospital disaster plan
•    Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports in connection with rounds, activities, incidents and investigations
•    Carries a firearm and maintains proficiency with firearm
 

Job Requirements

•    High school diploma or equivalent; on the job training as determined by the hospital
•    Ability to obtain a Marion County Special Deputy License
•    Individual must not have a felony record
•    Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy requirements
•    Must pass a psychological evaluation
•    Must be at least 21 years of age
•    Must pass ILEA physical requirements
•    New hires after June 1, 2021 must complete the Eskenazi Health Field Training Officer (FTO) Program within 122 days of hire date

•    Ability to perform routine surveillance
•    Ability to communicate diplomatically with a wide variety of contacts
•    Ability to speak, read, write and follow written and oral instructions
•    Uses consistent exercise of professional/good judgment and perception
•    Must provide accurate and concise written report and thorough investigations
