Job Role Summary

Responsible for the development, coordination and evaluation of projects related to the Suicide Fatality Review Board in Marion County. Serves as a liaison with healthcare providers, social service organizations, civic and community agencies.  Provides community education to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and suicide within Marion County.

Essential Duties

• Coordinate and facilitate the Marion County Suicide Fatality Review Team (SFR).
• Review suicide fatality data with Forensic Epidemiologist to develop a theme and identify cases to review at each meeting.
• Prepare materials about the theme and cases for each meeting from a variety of sources including criminal justice involvement, medical records, and social media.
• Coordinate and communicate with all SFR partners; review the needs of the SFR team and identify new partners, as needed.
• Manages access to confidential information and can carry private health information off site within the county.
• Identify, compile, and report recommendations from SFR partners through meetings and conversations.
• Maintains policies, plans, protocols, and guidelines related to SFR projects.
• Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations regarding the findings in the SFR process.
• Investigates possible funding sources related to identified initiatives.
• Identifies and initiates recommendations regarding SFR.
• Provides orientations/training to related hospital, community service, and health department personnel. 
• Provide and coordinate training related to suicide and mental health to HHC/MCPHD staff, community members, and other stake holders surrounding mental health and suicide.

Associated Job Duties

• Serves on appropriate committees and taskforces as assigned.
• Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
• Serve as placement practicum supervisor to social work interns as needed.
• Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Required: Master’s Degree in Social Work.
• Minimum of 5 years of master level social work experience.

Licenses/Certifications Required

Licensure/Certifications:

• Required: Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Indiana.
• Required: Valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance and use of automobile.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to review and write summary of client medical records and interviews.
• Ability to use a variety of computers programs such as: Microsoft Word 6.0, Excel, and Power Point etc.
• Ability to empathize with bereaved families and refer to appropriate resources.

Working Environment

• Requires physical effort related to Social Work activities; standing and carrying of supplies; travel in and out of county.
• Responsibilities are diverse and require flexibility to work in several settings, altering presentations to fit the needs of the audience.
