Job Role Summary
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values.
- Effectively prioritizes to meet the individual needs of the patient, utilizing the Synergy Model.
- Rapidly identifies and appropriately intervenes, in a crisis situation, to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Makes sound clinical decisions with the ability to articulate rationale behind decisions, incorporating Evidence Based Practice.
- Serves as a clinical resource to others
- Medication administration is timely, in accordance to hospital policy.
- Medication knowledge base is at the level allowing sound clinical decision making
- Area specific technical skills: Knowledgeable in performing and assisting with procedures; Proficiency in use of unit specific equipment
- Reflective of hospital and unit specific standards
- Pain assessment and reassessment documented per hospital policy
- Documentation reflects evidence of appropriate patient/significant other teaching
- Presence of Discharge planning and teaching
- Ensures appropriate utilization of all IT systems for patient care
- Effectively acts as a Preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal learners
- Supports and participates in Shared Governance initiatives.
- Participates in identification of clinical or operational PI opportunities, using Evidence Based Practice, e.g. Handwashing compliance
- Promotes teamwork and serves as a Mentor for new staff
- Maintains state of Regulatory Readiness/Follows the National Patient Safety
Job Requirements
• Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse
• RN degree from a national accredited college or university
• Current BLS certification; other certifications may be required in specific units of practice

- fundamental nursing theories, current clinical concepts, diseases/symptoms, trauma, treatments/medications, triage, appropriate diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and interventions

- follows oral/written instructions, records/interprets information accurately
- competency in assessing, responding to patient status or needs, and interpreting results
- recognizes and reacts to changes in patient status, documents and reports changes
- Performs CPR and other technical skills
- Positions patients
- Must be able to wash hands thoroughly and frequently
- Must be able to help evacuate patients via stairwells
- Critical thinking skills are essential
