Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Job Role Summary
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Coordinates all aspects of the specified service line of care for a similar patient population of high acuity patients of all ages within the Perioperative department
- Performs all functions of a CST (Certified Surgical Technician)
- Functions independently as a practitioner, demonstrating superior problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
- Coordinates and makes available specialty equipment/supplies for each procedure by reviewing the OR (Operating Room) schedule in advance and working with vendors
- Continually communicates effectively with the Surgery Scheduler, Managers, Charge Nurse, Material Manager, and staff regarding special needs for procedures within the specialty
- Develops a core curriculum, in conjunction with the Clinical Educator, for the Service Line, and oversees orientation of new staff in specified Service Line
- Assists in daily assignments to ensure that competent, trained employees are assigned to procedures within the specified Service Line
- Is a resource to all employees for Service Line and is available by pager to answer questions
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology
- Current Certification (CST) with required continuing education credits
- CSTs must complete 60 hours of approved continuing education in a 4-year timeframe with 15 CEUs turned into education every year
- Current BLS certification
- Member of professional organization (AST) preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice in an Operating Room setting
