Job Role Summary

The Senior Human Resources Generalist provides advanced HR expertise across all core functional areas, with emphasis on employee relations, compliance, policy administration, benefits oversight, and workforce development support. This role serves as a trusted advisor and problem-solver to leaders and employees, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies, mitigating organizational risk, and promoting a workplace culture of trust, respect, and accountability. The position partners closely with HR leadership to design and implement programs that enhance employee engagement and operational excellence.

Essential Duties

Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
•Serve as the primary HR contact for employee relations matters, providing guidance, conflict resolution, and coaching to leaders and staff.
•Conduct confidential investigations into workplace complaints (e.g., harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, policy violations), ensuring thorough documentation and timely resolution.
•Partner with managers to implement corrective and developmental action plans, focusing on consistent and equitable outcomes.
•Identify trends in employee relations activity and recommend preventive training or policy improvements.
•Promote a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture consistent with organizational values.

Benefits & Leave Administration
•Support administration of benefits programs (health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, etc.) and employee leave programs (FMLA, ADA, military, and personal leaves).
•Serve as a resource to employees on benefits and leave questions, ensuring accurate communication and resolution.
•Support annual open enrollment activities and vendor coordination.
•Audit benefits eligibility and invoices for accuracy and cost control.

Compliance & Policy Management
•Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies.
•Maintain personnel records, I-9 documentation, and confidential HR files in compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
•Assist in drafting, updating, and communicating HR policies and the employee handbook.
•Partner with HR leadership to conduct periodic compliance audits and implement process improvements.

Performance, Development & Compensation Support
•Support leaders in performance management processes, including goal setting, coaching, and performance evaluations.
•Assist with compensation benchmarking and pay equity reviews.
•Contribute to employee development initiatives, including training coordination and onboarding enhancements.
•Partner with HRIS and analytics to track workforce metrics and prepare reports for management.

Unemployment & Risk Mitigation
•Oversee unemployment claims and hearings, ensuring timely responses and effective representation.
•Maintain documentation related to separations and claims to minimize risk and manage costs.
•Identify patterns or root causes in turnover and corrective actions.

HR Operations & Projects
•Lead or participate in HR process improvement projects and cross-functional initiatives.
•Serve as an HR systems “super user,” supporting data accuracy, reporting, and configuration updates.
•Provide mentorship or guidance to junior HR staff, delegating transactional work as appropriate.
 

Qualifications

Education/Experience: 
•Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
•4–7 years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated strength in employee relations and compliance.
•PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred.
•Comprehensive knowledge of employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.).
•Experience managing benefits, leaves of absence, and unemployment claims.
•Skilled in conducting investigations, mediating disputes, and writing clear, defensible documentation.
•Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
•Proficient in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis or dashboards preferred.
 

Licenses/Certifications Required

•PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred.

Working Environment

•Standard office environment; hybrid or on-site work as required.
•Occasional travel to organization sites, hearings, or training events.
