Essential Duties

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable hospital policies, all departmental policies and general orders.
  • Conducts follow-up investigations.
  • Participates in solution of crimes and apprehension of offenders; responds to alarms at all Health and Hospital and MCPDH facilities.
  • Provides direction and/or assistance to employees, visitors and patients, and checks for required identification.
  • Directs emergency traffic.
  • Directs visitors, patients and employees to requested areas; provides escorts as needed or requested.
  • Provides emergency response to security fire alarms at all Health and Hospital and MCPDH facilities.
  • Ensures general safety and security of persons and property at all Health and Hospital and MCPDH facilities.
  • Patrols  areas and environment in and around all Health and Hospital and MCPDH facilities.
  • Assists in restraint of unruly or disorderly individuals.
  • Reports activities, security/safety conditions.
  • Patrols Health and Hospital and MCPDH facilities and surrounding areas to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry, reporting unusual conditions or malfunctions to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Reports fire or disaster and performs security and evacuation services as outlined in the Health and Hospital/MCPHD disaster plan.
  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports in connection with rounds, activities, incidents and investigations.
  • Carries a firearm and maintains proficiency with firearm.

Associated Job Duties

  • Maintains patient and family confidentiality.
  • Maintains protected health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information surveillance, and sensitive department information.
  • Adheres to Health and Hospital and MCPDH driving policies.
  • Performs duties of Dispatcher as needed.
  • Assists Supervisor in conducting OJT for new employees.
  • Initiates arrest and immediate detentions when necessary.
  • Testifies in court when necessary.
  • Unlocks doors upon request from an authorized representative.
  • Performs shuttle duties when necessary.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; on the job training as determined by the hospital.
  • Must obtain and maintain Special Deputy or reserve deputy/officer status.
  • Individual must not have a felony record.
  • Must pass a psychological evaluation.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must pass ILEA physical requirements.
  • New hires after November 1, 2022 must complete the Health and Hospital and MCPDH Field Training Officer (FTO) Program within 122 days of hire date.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license that meets Health and Hospital and MCPDH driving policy requirements.

  • Ability to perform routine surveillance.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically with a wide variety of contacts.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Uses consistent exercise of professional/good judgment and perception.
  • Must provide accurate and concise written report and thorough investigations.
