Job Role Summary
The Seasonal aquatic facility inspector is responsible for conducting routine inspections and surveillance of aquatic facilities and venues, including pools, spas, splash pads, and beaches, to ensure compliance with state and local health and safety regulations. This role involves assessing environmental risk factors affecting community health and safety, analyzing water quality, and implementing interventions to minimize the risk of waterborne diseases and injury. The inspector will communicate effectively with facility operators, respond to public complaints.
Essential Duties
Inspections and Compliance 50%
- Conduct inspections and assessments of public and semi-public aquatic facilities to ensure health and safety codes compliance.
- Perform water quality tests and collect samples for bacteriological analysis.
- Communicate code requirements and expectations to facility operators.
Data Collection and Management 20%
- Collect data on aquatic facilities and equipment.
- Compile and input this information into the agency’s database for ongoing monitoring and analysis.
Public Education and Support 20%
- Educate facility operators on health regulations and safety practices.
- Troubleshoot and advise on issues that may increase the risk of recreational water illnesses.
Incident Response and Investigation 10%
- Respond to and investigate complaints, injuries, and waterborne disease outbreaks.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspections and findings.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, public health or related field strong preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Certification as a Certified Pool and Spa Operator ( provided by us) is required within a month of hire.
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License
Working Environment
This is a field-based role requiring outdoor work in various weather conditions. The inspector will encounter challenging situations, including dealing with angry, upset or difficult individuals during inspections. A personal vehicle is necessary for travel, with mileage reimbursed according to department policies.
