Job Role Summary
The Burn Registrar creates and maintains clinical and statistical data as required by the American Burn Association (ABA) for all inpatient and selected outpatient burn patients. This position abstracts data elements from the Electronic Medical Record required for entry into the computerized burn registry, retrospectively and concurrently.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values
- Creates and maintains clinical and statistical data as required by the American Burn Association for inpatient and selected outpatient burn patients.
- Abstracts data elements required for entry into the computerized burn registry, retrospectively and concurrently.
- Ability to create, run, and display reports from the data elements entered in the computerized burn registry.
- Provides reports in a concise and thorough format.
- Assists clinical personnel in research projects and continuous quality improvement initiatives related to burn registry data.
- Originates, creates, and stores queries and reports as needed.
- Scans computerized burn registry for errors.
- Maintains a 95% accuracy rate when performing all duties.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of three years working with medical records or at least 4 years of relevant health care experience (i.e., LPN, Paramedic) with computer skills.
- Completion of American Burn Association Registry modules within 3 months of hire.
- Completion of the American Burn Association Burn Registry Course within 12 months of hire.
- Maintain membership with American Burn Association.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of advanced medical terminology.
- Advanced computer skills including but not limited to, data base maintenance and development, Microsoft Office, and the ability to utilize statistical computer software.
- Computer literate and proficient in using and coding work processing software.
- Skills in filing, data entry, and basic clerical duties.
- Familiarization with anatomy.
- Effective oral and written skills necessary for corresponding with all levels of hospital personnel.
