Job Role Summary

The intern serves the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) under the direction of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Division for Public Health Administration. PHEP is responsible for establishing local public health preparedness priorities, developing, and testing response plans, coordinating with local, state, and federal partners, and managing public health emergencies both natural and man-made in Marion County, Indiana. 
Emergency Preparedness is seeking an intern to assist PHEP staff with operational readiness of all PHEP assets and equipment, and contributes to the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive emergency preparedness framework aligned with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Associated Job Duties

Contribute to the operational readiness and response for Public Health Emergency Preparedness.
Assist the team with preparing reports, maintaining, and updating emergency plans and resource materials.
Participate in PHEP program activities including training, exercises, and real time public health response activities.
Assist with procurement activities, such as identifying appropriate items for purchase, getting quotes from vendors, and compiling orders.
Assist Logistics Manager with developing inventory of all supplies and warehouse equipment.
Assist with training and exercise develop that aligns with emergency preparedness readiness and response.  
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:
Intern in their 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate or graduate program.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal skills. 
Ability to work in a team environment. 
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to a diverse population.
 

Licenses/Certifications Required

TBD

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) certification or other related certification preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.  

Working Environment

Varied working environments.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
