Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

In collaboration with the Media & Public Affairs Manager and the Public Affairs & Communications team, the Public Affairs Strategist assists with the development and coordination of public relations and communications activities for Eskenazi Health and designated service lines. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission:   Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission:   Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.  
  • Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence.
  • Under the supervision of the Media and Public Affairs Manager, participate in the development of public relations planning and execution for Eskenazi Health that may include digital, print and radio advertising, internal and external newsletter content, direct-mail pieces, brochures, collateral, videos, annual reports, podcasts and other projects identified through the planning process.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for Eskenazi Health’s, talent acquisition department, rehab services, including pet therapy, social determinants of health, family beginnings/NICU and food & nutrition to the Public Affairs & Communications department.
  • Develops and monitors marketing and communication plans for projects and events within assigned service lines.
  • Works with the entire Public Affairs & Communications team to execute communication plans as needed.
  • Serves as a media relations liaison as needed, including participating in a scheduled on-call rotation.
  • Advises staff on communication, marketing, media relations and other outreach opportunities available within the community.
  • Works closely with other strategic communications team members to develop messaging and the presence of assigned departments on both internal and external platforms.
  • Provides or coordinates still photography and videography services as needed.
  • Manages timelines/deadlines of projects and tracks project budgets.
  • Coordinates the public relations needs for assigned department attended events such as health fairs, staff recognition activities, etc.
  • Delivers service excellence and ensures that events occurring in Eskenazi Health facilities and those that Eskenazi Health participates in across the community are in keeping with the organization’s brand.
  • Conducts post-event debriefing sessions.
  • Assists with content development and editing responsibilities on appropriate internal and external publications and other communication tools.
  • Assists with planning and execution of news conferences, briefings and other media-specific events.


 

Job Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, journalism or related discipline required.
•    At least two years prior experience in a public relations, marketing or communication role. Prior health care public relations experience is a plus but not required.
•    Valid Indiana Driver’s license that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy requirements
 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

•    High levels of accuracy, productivity and good judgment required in developing and maintaining a positive image of Eskenazi Health and related entities.
•    Flexibility and ability to work effectively with physicians, administrators, department heads, staff, etc. of affiliated institutions and community leaders
•    Superior written and verbal communication skills
•    Able to handle multiple responsibilities and tasks, and meet tight deadlines
•    Experienced with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. Able to conduct Internet and other kinds of research.
•    Detail oriented with solid organizational ability
•    Composed, articulate and comfortable in public speaking
•    Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
•    Creative, innovative; enjoys conceiving new ideas
•    Able to use age-appropriate communication skills
•    Willing to travel locally to meet with clients and work weekends and evenings for events and when on-call
