PEDIATRICIAN

Job Role Summary

Responsible for Providing pediatric primary healthcare at the Action health Center, the Adolescent Health Division of the Marion County Public Health Department. The physician will ensure continuity of pediatric patient care through health maintenance activities, including evaluation/early detection and management of medical problems and mental health issues. Appropriate referrals will be made when indicated. The physician should be either board eligible or board certified through the American Academy of Pediatricians.

Essential Duties

• Performs a focused clinical exam. Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients. Obtains medical history and other pertinent information noting deviation from the normal. Obtains appropriate specimens for laboratory diagnosis. 
• Evaluates diagnostic studies and lab tests. Diagnose patient problems or refers for diagnosis. Dispenses and administers formulary medications. Provides instruction to patients regarding prescribed therapy. 
• Documents visit activities in accordance with Health and Hospital Corporation standards. 
• Reviews charts when indicated. 
• Maintains medical records, utilizes appropriate forms; provides required audits or signing off on non-physician providers’ documentation. 
• Provides educational/observational opportunities for visiting medical students, medical residents, non-physician students and other appropriate clinical trainees. 
• May provide clinical services at other Marion County Public Health Department sites as needed. 
• Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed. 
• Participates in a minimum of Three H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of twelve (12) hours annually.
• Be proficient in working as a member of the primary health care team. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. attainment from an accredited U.S. Medical School or Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
• Completion of Internship and residency in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, or Obstetrics/Gynecology.

Licenses/Certifications Required

• Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
• Board Certification eligible or Board Certified.
• Current DEA License.
• Current State Medical License.

Working Environment

• Must be able to perform job duties in environment with moderate noise level (ex. Business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
• Has exposure to communicable disease; combative parents/families in stressful situations.
• Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
