Job Role Summary

The Epidemiology Department at the Marion County Public Health Department is seeking a graduate-level intern with an interest in quantitative and qualitative data experience.

 

Essential Duties

The main role of this intern is to support epidemiological work at the Marion County Public Health Department including two (2) projects: (1) The Community Stories about Health and Social Factors project uses community stories to better understand factors that influence health. This project will involve the transcription of key informant interviews and the identification of pertinent quotes. This project may also include quantitative data analysis, writing and/or reviewing reports, and offering recommendations. (2) The Public Health Dashboard project aims to disseminate public health data. This project will involve developing a public-facing dashboard in PowerBI and collaborating with external partners. The intern may be assigned other projects within the Epidemiology Department, as needed.

Associated Job Duties

In addition to job responsibilities, the intern will have the ability to shadow other areas within the health department

Qualifications

  • Current or recent graduate student with an MPH concentration in epidemiology (preferred) or similar 
  • Basic understanding of quantitative (required) and qualitative (preferred) data
  • Demonstrated experience using statistical software (SAS and/or R preferred)
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Completion of CITI training for responsibly conducting research or a willingness to complete such training, as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis 
  • Report writing

Working Environment

  • Candidate must be currently able to legally work in the United States
  • Position requires steady use of hands or fingers: 50%
  • Location will be hybrid (mix of in-person and remote work)
