Job Role Summary
Supports Chronic Disease Department through participation in educational, outreach, and engagement initiatives to promote stated department objectives. Creates and/or utilizes reporting mechanisms to describe and document community participation, reach of educational strategies, program implementation, and evaluation data. Carries out observational activities and independent projects, as assigned.
Essential Duties
- Assists in communicating the objectives/services of the Chronic Disease Department and its individual initiatives to the public, community agencies, and professional groups.
- Develops health education resources needed to inform, educate and empower communities related to nutrition, physical activity, dementia, tobacco and vaping, and other related subjects.
- Plans and implements projects and activities related to both county-wide and targeted promotion, as assigned.
- Participates in tobacco, nutrition, dementia, and other related workgroups and coalitions as both a learner and providing support.
- Creates content for various department social media accounts for posting by MCPHD personnel.
- Carries out evaluation activities including collecting and entering outreach data, preparing reports, and creating visualizations.
- Maintains confidentiality of information: (a breech is reason for termination)
- Other duties as assigned.
- Functions as a student team member along with other Chronic Disease Program staff.
- Assures supervisor is apprised of expectation for professional self-growth and continued development in relevant public health practices.
Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certifications/Experience
- Current graduate student in public health, business administration, public affairs, health education.
- Current Indiana driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of the operational practices of governmental and community-based organizations.
- Understands implementation of program plans and policies, guidelines, and/or protocols within organizations.
- Knowledge of operational, mathematical, analytical and statistical research techniques used in decision making.
- Proficiency In developing and managing spreadsheets
Knowledge of:
- public health principles and concepts
- institutional policy development
- data management/analysis including financial data
- intermediary statistical methods
Language Skills
- Interact tactfully with internal and external organizational personnel, public, and community groups.
- Convene work teams and provide leadership in complex, stressful situations.
Software skills:
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, excellent working knowledge of social media platforms
Mathematical Skills
- Compute rate, ratio, percent and design and interpret simple graphs.
Reasoning Ability
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Flexibility and high level of organizational skill to respond effectively to changing situations and priorities
Working Environment
- Balance of office environment and community sites for engagement activities.
- Physical demands include lifting light weight materials on a routine basis.
