Essential Functions and Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Medical Transporter II Driver, you will:

  • Safely transport patients to and from appointments, procedures, tests, and designated community locations using ADA-accessible vehicles.
  • Ensure patients are transported with dignity, comfort, and compassion throughout their journey.
  • Assist patients with entering and exiting vehicles, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds using proper safety and body mechanics techniques.
  • Exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately during emergency or unexpected situations.
  • Support safe patient handling and mobility while maintaining patient comfort.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, records, and documentation.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and pre-trip safety checks.
  • Keep vehicles, wheelchairs, stretchers, and equipment clean, sanitized, and ready for use.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, clinicians, technicians, and other healthcare team members regarding patient arrivals and departures.
  • Assist fellow transport staff by serving as a transport assistant when needed.
  • Stock vehicles with essential supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support additional department needs, including equipment deliveries and special assignments.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license that meets Eskenazi Health driving standards.
  • CPR certification required within one month of hire.
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) certification required within six months of hire, as available through IEMS.
  • Ability to safely assist patients with mobility and transportation needs.
  • Previous patient transport, healthcare, medical transportation, customer service, or related experience is preferred.
