Job Role Summary
This position is responsible for providing mental health consultation services for Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) funded Family Support Specialists within the Healthy Families department. Provide monthly individual consultation to home visitors serving MIECHV-funded families for the purpose of reviewing MIECHV-funded caseloads and identifying families needing intervention. Provide guidance, support, and feedback to staff who make home visits to at-risk families. Develop appropriate intervention plans, review and document family response to interventions, prioritizing based on risk. Provide reflective supervision to staff. Conduct training, at least bi-monthly, to address overall trends and concerns of staff members related to mental health.
Essential Duties
Responsibility 1: Reflective Supervision/Mental Health Consultation
- Meet with each MIECHV funded staff member a minimum of one hour monthly to provide reflective consultation, to case conference, and to develop intervention strategies for each family identified as being most at risk.
- Review families’ responses to strategies and impact on workers.
- Complete supportive home visits as needed to provide immediate clinical intervention and assist with referral coordination for any ongoing clinical needs beyond home visiting.
- Facilitate regular reflective supervision groups with home visitors who have been employed for at least one year.
- Complete reflective groups, provide consultation and support, and assist with training and development of supervisors.
- Document all activities as required per MIECHV contract.
- Report any relevant issues or concerns to Program Director.
Responsibility 2: Review Cases and Identify Risk
- Review all newly enrolled and currently enrolled MIECHV funded families on a monthly basis.
- Identify families who would benefit from mental health consultation as evidenced by elevated FROG Scale scores, positive IPV screens, or elevated depression screening scores.
- Monitor and oversee the program’s MIECHV data, including data entry, analysis, and reporting.
Responsibility 3: Training and Development
- Identify trends among staff and provide related trainings at least bi-monthly.
- Seek and maintain Infant Mental Endorsement from the Indiana Association for Infant and Toddler Health as applicable.
- Complete necessary Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in order to maintain licensure.
Responsibility 4: Meetings and Trainings
- Attend weekly leadership team meetings and bi-monthly staff meetings.
- Assist in training new employees in mental health related topics.
- Participate in Healthy Families trainings for the statewide program.
- Attend regional leadership meetings to receive program information.
- Participate in site visits and accreditation visits.
- Attend all MIECHV related statewide meetings to participate in conversations related to data reporting and analysis, mental health consultation services, etc.
Responsibility 5: Public Health Duties
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in response to public health emergencies, as directed.
- Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. health fair events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually. These events may occur on weekends.
- Protect and maintain confidentiality of each family’s and employee's medical and personal information which may be obtained in the course of provision of care or employment.
- Job duties may require individual to remove confidential information from work place setting to another site in order to provide service. If the information is removed, it must be protected and secured as if the employee were at the office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family, or related human service field required.
- 3 to 5 years of previous experience of progressively responsible position in a human service field with supervisory and/or clinical experience preferred.
- Experience in home visitation with a strong background in prevention services in the 0-3 age population preferred.
- Access to reliable vehicle and current automobile insurance.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Current license issued by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board as one of the following: Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Direct Worker, or Mental Health Counselor.
- Must have valid Indiana Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must have experience with and/or willingness to work with the culturally diverse populations present among the program’s target population, as well as with the program’s diverse staff.
- Must have knowledge of infant and child development.
- Must be proficient with technology.
Working Environment
- Unconfined sitting, working at computer, attending meetings, etc.; standing and walking; steady use of hands and fingers – data entry; limited lifting and carrying.
- May be exposed to substandard and unsanitary living conditions.
- May be exposed to allergens of all types (i.e. pets, dust, smoke, etc.).
