The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.

About the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU):
The Licensed Crisis Clinician Specialist – CIU provides outpatient behavioral health crisis intervention and support services within Eskenazi Health for individuals of all ages. This position is a hospital-based role and part of the 24/7 outpatient Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) crisis response continuum team, providing crisis intervention services in the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) and SEMHC Triage, as well as consultation and evaluation in other areas of the hospital, including the emergency room and medical floors.

This position assesses individuals for harm to self and/or others, as well as grave disability to ensure safety and dispositioning to the appropriate level of care. The Licensed Crisis Clinician Specialist provides crisis intervention and support services to psychiatric consumers of all ages, and works closely with SEMHC outpatient services, re-linking current clients to their treatment teams, establishing care for those without an outpatient behavioral health provider, and conducts follow-up post-disposition to ensure client connection to care.

Am I Qualified?

Master’s degree in a behavioral health or human services that meets Indiana licensure requirements for the following associate licenses:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW);

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); or
-
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Active and unencumbered clinical licensure in the State of Indiana (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC)

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (“CPR”)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides crisis intervention and support services to psychiatric consumers of all ages.
- Conducts crisis mental health and substance abuse screenings for consumers and family members.
- Evaluates psychosocial status and needs for the development of an appropriate treatment/crisis plan.
- Provides daily living skills education when appropriate.
- Serves as a referral source for consumers, working cooperatively with community resources/agencies.
- Maintains appropriate documentation for all crisis and case management services, including but not limited to, social, psychiatric and medical histories and presenting problems with complete mental status exam.
- Provides psychiatric consultation to Eskenazi Emergency Room and Medical/Surgical Unit of Eskenazi Hospital.
- Conducts screening for suicide and homicide risk.
- Screens for acute care services, including Inpatient, SAS and Partial Programs.
- Determines level of care for consumers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of consumer served.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Advanced critical thinking regarding assessment, crisis intervention, within a strength-based framework.
- Practice in mental health and addictions treatment.
- Training in the use and side effects of psychotropic medications.
- Ability to gather, interpret and analyze client data.
- Experience in providing risk assessments.
- Ability to provide case presentation to medical staff.
- CPR, CPI and basic first aid.
- Strong interpersonal skills/ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written communication.
