Job Role Summary
The Lead Poisoning Risk Assessor will be responsible for enforcing public safety codes in Marion County specifically with regards to lead-based paint hazards. This position will be required to have or obtained a valid lead inspection and risk assessor license within six months of employment. The EHS conducts lead inspections and risk assessments on pre1978 housing units and child occupied facilities. The EHS provides a written report detailing the findings of such inspection, suggest corrective action where warranted, monitoring work done on the units, and conducting clearance examinations. The EHS must work closely with the department staff to coordinate services on homes where lead poisoned children live.
Essential Duties
- Conducts on-site lead inspections and risk assessments on pre-1978 homes referred to the EHS either through other department staff or outside referral.
- Interpret and enforce codes, ordinances, and statutes relevant to housing, sanitation and unsafe buildings.
- Issue notices of violations, including recommendations for corrective action, on ordinance/safety standard violations observed during inspections.
- Prepare a written report detailing findings and disseminate to responsible parties.
- Complete a healthy homes screen on all homes where an inspection occurs and forward healthy homes screens to the department healthy homes specialist.
- Complete appropriate documentation in relevant databases in prescribed timeframe.
- Gather evidence and serve as a professional witness in various judicial settings
- Attend and actively participate in neighborhood meetings. Prepare necessary reports for use in neighborhood meetings.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other Public Health Departments and other governmental agencies in a positive, teamwork manner.
- Comply with training and practice requirements for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Maintain knowledge of Marion County Public Health Department services and programs and communicate that information to members of the diverse community.
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed
- Participate in a minimum of two Health Outreach Promotion and Education (H.O.P.E.) events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in public health or related field
- Indiana issued valid and current driver’s license, good driving record, current automobile insurance and access to reliable personal transportation for work purposes.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Valid Indiana Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor license or obtain one within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and web based.
- Self-starter capable of working independently.
- Motivated and able to shift daily work plan as priorities change.
- Effective coordinator with internal staff and key outside constituents.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet strict deadlines.Other:
