Job Role Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Director: Attendance and/or assigned site administrator(s), this position serves as liaison between school and home, foster youth, and other service agencies, working with and on the behalf of students whose home or community presents personal and situational problems which impede their educational progress. The Social Worker effects resolutions of problems which may be adversely affecting achievement, attendance, behavior, school, adjustment, and student welfare; supervises interns in a program to obtain a master’s of social work (MSW) and/or field service students; serves as the District liaison with colleges and universities, which assign interns and/or field service workers; and serves as the District liaison with community service beneficiaries, community-based organizations, and support service provider agencies involved with students and/or students’ families.
This program will increase academic, emotional, and social competence with the following skills: study habits and academic support; communication; peer relationships; self-efficacy and assertiveness; drug resistance skills; reinforcement of anti-drug attitudes; and strengthening of personal commitments against drug abuse. The position will be responsible for assisting schools with developing methods to provide prevention education to the targeted students, working with students to increase their knowledge about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Work to encourage students to participate in programming that is directed toward behavior change by addressing social and emotional wellness. The position will be responsible for assisting schools and community-based organizations.
Associated Job Duties
- Collaborates with site staff to coordinate the transition of students back into mainstream education after expulsion.
- Consults with school administrators and other school personnel, as well as community agencies and organizations, in matters affecting the welfare of students.
- Provides direct counseling services to students and their families to effect positive behavioral, emotional, and academic development.
- Provides in-service training to school personnel in areas affecting emotional, behavioral, and academic development.
- Prepares correspondence, reports, and other appropriate communications.
- Responsible for oversight of program development and working with school’s implementation of ATOD Social and Emotional Wellness programs.
- Develop and facilitate policies and procedures for the ATOD Social and Emotional Wellness program.
- Develop an evaluation methodology by which to assess the impact of the ATOD Social and Emotional Wellness programs, both internally and externally.
- Coordinate and monitor data collection and accuracy.
- Prepare reports on all ATOD Social and Emotional Wellness activities and present to designated committees.
- Develop and implement a student satisfaction program.
- Serve as the liaison between MCHD and Indianapolis Public School District (IPS) and other school systems within Indianapolis.
- Assists in consumer development and increasing consumer involvement in program activities.
- Conduct ATOD sessions in schools
- Develops performance improvement measures and procedures based on core service needs.
- Develop, implement and maintain protocols, policies and procedures for the SUOS program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited University. LCSW and/or LCAC (Preferred). Be in good standing in the State of Indiana with a minimum of 2 years post-licensure.
- Two years’ experience in program planning and evaluation.
- Experience in providing outreach and health education services.
- Ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and three to five years of progressively responsible professional work experience.
