Job Role Summary

The Inventory Specialist Central Supply performs supply inventory management functions in Central Supply.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • ? Proactively contributes to Eskenazi's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence
  • Performs supply inventory management functions in Central Supply
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels of designated supply items
  • Performs daily stock replenishment and weekly cycle counts
  • Evaluates and recommends stock levels based upon historical supply use
  • Records and reports any discrepancy or damage in shipment
  • Checks and rotates supplies with expiration dates
  • Removes outdated sterile supplies and returns them to origin for reprocessing, or secures sterile supplies as required
  • Reviews charge codes of supplies during inventory process to ensure accuracy
  • Ensures storage areas are orderly and organized
  • Places routine orders in accordance with established guidelines
  • Processes returns, researches back orders, resolves discrepancy issues, and expedites open orders
  • Performs duties of batch control, i.e. Specialty Beds, SCD Machines, and other centrally controlled patient equipment billing

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Related experience in a hospital inventory/materials setting may be accepted in lieu of educational requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and use basic math
  • Inventory/stockroom related experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical supplies
  • Knowledge of commercial and/or generic names of items processed in order to fill requests
  • Data-entry skills
  • Ability to use personal computer and various software applications
  • Ability to operate a micro-based inventory control system
  • Initiative and reactive problem solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Close attention to detail
  • Strong follow-through and organizational skills
