Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Interpreter Services Employee Support Specialist serves as the primary leader responsible for ensuring the interpreter services team has all technical and administrative support needed for effective work execution as well as providing support across the organization to communicate any technical issues identified that would impact interpreter service delivery. The incumbent in this position must be good at multitasking and balancing several responsibilities at the same time as well as having the ability to effectively support and assist employees within the department.  Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County and models Eskenazi Health values

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that interpreters have the materials and resources needed to effectively interpret for all assigned areas within Eskenazi Health
  • Advocates for all non-English Speaking patients and their families
  • Leads dispatch to ensure appropriate in-person resources are assigned to areas that meet medical and social complexity prioritization
  • Manages daily on-call
  • Ensures interpreter services technology resources are delivered across the Eskenazi health system
  • Ensures interpreter teams have needed materials to be supported with includes and is not limited to office supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Responsible for rounding to ensure that interpreter services team members are up to date on education and training as well as maintaining moral within the department
  • Provide coaching or otherwise help employees improve a situation or resolve a conflict with emphasis on need for high employee morale and retention 
  • Exhibits ability to identify department wide training needs and assist in coordinating needed training at leadership request
  • Responsible for new employee onboarding and training Exhibits excellent interpersonal and professional skills
  • Exhibits ability to act quickly in time sensitive situations 
  • Manage communication with the team and relay needed information to Interpreter Services leadership (such as director and team lead), with plans of action to support staff 
  • Employee will remain current with available Eskenazi Health employee resources and able to provide direction as to how employees can utilize or access those resources 
     

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in any Human Services related field
  • At least three years of related experience and education will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Preferably a minimum of one year experience working with the non-English speaking community within a social service agency or healthcare setting
     

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong medical terminology in a minimum of two languages including English
  • Must have Bridging the Gap or comparable course
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or another language
  • Bicultural in the English and Spanish cultures or another culture
