Job Role Summary

This position will develop an intern recruitment program; maintain a database of contacts and internship postings, track internship activity, create reports of activity and provide updates to the Workforce Director, serve as the liaison between MCPHD and university/college career centers, and plan and execute internship events. This position will also be responsible for improving the productivity of the organization’s employees by assessing company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives, identifying and arranging suitable training solutions for staff. 

Associated Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff of Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) and local colleges/universities to bring meaningful internship experiences to students in a variety of public health disciplines. 
  • Develop and adhere to Director and Chief Medical Officer and Senior Executive team directives that pertain to this program.
  • Serve as the liaison between MCPHD and college/university career centers for intern placement. 
  • Ensure all Affiliation Agreements are in place and up to date between MCPHD and prospective college/universities.
  • Track and monitor student internship applications, preparation and placement process, career plans and professional development, academic and MCPHD program policies to assist the internship process. 
  • Create and maintain a professional development training calendar for MCPHD staff and interns to ensure current best practices are met. 
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with program managers. 
  • Design, plan, organize, and direct orientation and training programs for employees and/or interns. 
  • Organize specific training programs to help maintain, enhance, or improve job skills.
  • Monitor, evaluate, or record training activities or programs for effectiveness.
  • Conduct site visits to observe internship sites while students are working.
  • Participate in emergency public health preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies as directed.
  • Monitor and understand Incident Command structure (ICS) via working with emergency preparedness staff.
  • Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education, business administration, public health, public affairs or a related field and 2 years of experience in program planning, management, and development.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in program development, program design and implementation may be accepted in lieu of the above.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information to different stakeholders.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Negotiation skills necessary to bring people/groups together.
Thorough knowledge of program planning process including development of goals, objectives, and evaluation measures.
Communicate well with people of various cultures, ethnicities, and life experiences.
