Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The IS Instructional Designer is an integral part of the IS Clinical Solutions department and works under the supervision of the IS Training Manager.  In this role the incumbent is responsible for a defined area of applications and will work with departmental subject matter experts, EHR management, and application team members to develop, deliver, and optimize the IS training program for those applications. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The position requires a background in instructional design/curriculum development and knowledge of adult learning methods and must possess excellent presentation skills, strong technical documentation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.  In addition to curriculum design the incumbent will work closely with Solutions Analysts to determine the impact of Epic system upgrades and is responsible for applying appropriate updates to the training environment.  The IS Instructional Designer will produce end user specific upgrade training content related to the applications they are responsible for.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for mastering all IS applications and Eskenazi Health's specific workflows
  • Develops and implements the training program for respective application(s)
  • Builds, tests, and maintains the training environment
  • Creates and maintains all training materials
  • Trains and credentials additional classroom trainers to assist with end-user training
  • Maintains policy and procedure documentation
  • Maintains the training curriculum and training environment, and delivers ongoing training post-live

Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in EMR training is mandatory
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; in lieu of degree must have 4 years of directly related experience in EMR training and support.
  • History of adult education and successful clinical instruction preferred
  • Clinical or operational experience (recommended but not required)
  • Successful completion of Epic certification process within assigned time (may obtain on-the-job)
