Job Role Summary
This position will develop an intern recruitment program; maintain a database of contacts and internship postings, track internship activity, create reports of activity and provide updates to the Workforce Director, serve as the liaison between MCPHD and university/college career centers, and plan and execute internship events.
Essential Duties
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff of Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) and local colleges/universities to bring meaningful internship experiences to students in a variety of public health disciplines.
- Develop and adhere to Director and Chief Medical Officer and Senior Executive team directives that pertain to this program.
- Serve as the liaison between MCPHD and college/university career centers for intern placement.
- Ensure all Affiliation Agreements are in place and up to date between MCPHD and prospective college/universities.
- Work with the legal department to develop and track signed Affiliation Agreements with college/universities as needed.
- Track and monitor student internship applications, preparation and placement process, career plans and professional development, academic and MCPHD program policies to assist the internship process.
- Communicate and coordinate professional development training workshops and trainings for interns.
- Design, plan, organize, and direct orientation and training programs for interns.
- Engage, coach, direct interns through the application, onboarding, work log, time management, off-boarding and exit survey process on internship.
- Provide guidance to the workforce on internship program policies and procedures.
- Develop internship program procedure manual and oversee implementation of a streamlined internship process.
- Oversee the operations related to the implementation and growth of the internship program.
- Assist the evaluation team with needed metrics for progress reporting and grant compliance.
Associated Job Duties
- Conduct site visits to observe internship sites while students are working.
- Oversee administration needs for the Internship Program including creating related organizational policies.
- Collaborate with the Public Relations team to promote the internship program and develop content for the website and social media to attract a wide range of interns.
- Assist with creating and reviewing intern job descriptions.
- Coordinate with Human Resources and CIS to ensure interns and preceptors are prepared with documentation, training and equipment on day one.
- Assist in recruiting interns via college career fairs with the talent acquisitions team.
- Supervisory responsibilities.
- Participate in emergency public health preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies as directed.
- Monitor and understand Incident Command structure (ICS) via working with emergency preparedness staff.
- Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in secondary education, business administration, public health, public affairs or a related field and 2 years of experience in program planning, management, and development required.
- Master’s level degree preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information to different stakeholders.
- Program management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Valid driver’s license

Working Environment
- Primarily office environment; outreach activities in various schools throughout the county.
- Physical demands include lifting light weight materials on a routine basis.
- The position requires the ability to engage in and/or out of state travel as needed.
