Job Role Summary
The intern will serve the Health and Hospital Corporation/Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) under the direction of the Human Resources Department during the spring semester of (January to May 2025). The Human Resource department is responsible for advising employees and managers, coordinates staffing, oversees benefits, and ensures compliance with employment laws.
The intern will be responsible for providing front desk administrative support to the Human Resources Department, HR staff and Corporation. Other responsibilities include coordinating and managing the new hire process, benefits administration and general HR duties.
Associated Job Duties
Intern job responsibilities:
- Assist with orientation.
- Appropriately screens HR phone calls and visitors, HR email inbox, and the HR ticketing system.
- Assist the Human Resources team with initiatives and projects that span multiple HR disciplines and employee experiences.
- Maintain employee files and scanning documents for HR retention and finance audits.
- Screening candidates
- Reconcile bi-weekly/monthly HR billing
- Completing I-9’s
- Reviewing background checks
- Assist in completing Public Service Loan Forgiveness program
- Assist in processing Employee Tuition Assistance Program
- Completion of ‘Verification of Employment’ requests
- Preparation of ‘Verification of Employment’ letters
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Intern in their 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of employment FMLA, benefits, COBRA, HIPAA.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently on multiple priorities.
