Job Role Summary

The Health Equity Research Clinician works within Eskenazi Health’s Analytics Department as an embedded researcher to design, conduct, report, and consult on studies researching clinical interventions pertaining to health equity. This position is funded by a 5-year grant from the Regenstreif Center for Health Equity Research (RCHER), a unique clinical-community laboratory whose mission is to conduct applied clinical research in collaboration with our local community that leads to scalable solutions to health disparities. This role will bridge social and clinical epidemiology. The Clinician will contribute expertise in identifying patient populations, including within Eskenazi Health’s novel health equity zones at risk for specific diseases. The Clinician will develop interventions in collaboration with the health system colleagues and researchers for health equity. A successful Health Equity Research Clinician will have a passion for increasing health equity, a broad range of skills for conducting clinically embedded research and evaluation, and the ability to be creative with collaborative approaches with clinical teams. A Clinician who lives in or has lived in a neighborhood within Eskenazi Health’s Health Equity Zones (or similar neighborhoods in other metropolitan areas) will have an advantage of understanding the populations Eskenazi Health is focused on for increasing health equity.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.  Models Eskenazi values of P.R.I.D.E. (Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence)
  • Fosters a positive environment for the team to collaborate and learn from each other.
  • Informs study design based on epidemiological findings.
  • Translate the results of research and analysis into compelling data visualizations which illustrate the overall strategy.
  • Perform comprehensive review of data sources to deliver high quality data and analysis.
  • Perform development and review of proposal text.
  • Support departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to research data analysts also working for RCHER.
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Warehouse team to determine the best way to incorporate new data sources into the existing data warehouse.
     

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in any healthcare clinical field is required, Clinical or Social Epidemiology is preferred, PhD preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with research teams to develop study designs and presenting findings.
  • The ability to code in at least one statistical software computing language (such as R, Python, SAS) is required.
  • The ability to code in SQL is preferred, the ability to learn SQL will be required.
  • Experience with designing and building visuals in business intelligence tools (such as Tableau, Power BI) is preferred.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, such as ESRI GIS and geospatial analysis is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep understanding of Eskenazi Health or healthcare clinical and operational workflows in general.
  • Ability to lead meetings with users of varying technical and data understanding.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to probe for information about the underlying needs a proposal.
  • Ability to analyse data and assist with identifying ways to measure key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill with Eskenazi Health business intelligence software and promotes continued learning
