Job Role Summary
The Food Logistics Specialist is responsible for driving Eskenazi Health vehicles to successfully complete all department deliveries while being attentive to traffic and weather conditions. Vehicles include: straight trucks, box trucks, cargo vans and the Fresh for You Market on Wheels bus. This role ensures the safety of passengers when applicable and the safety of others when operating vehicle lift gates and pallet jackets to load and unload deliveries. Additionally, this role will have responsibility for daily operations of the Fresh for You Market on Wheels bus including handling customer concerns and other tasks as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the successful completion of all department deliveries and ensuring the safety of passengers and others, when performing tasks that utilize Eskenazi Health vehicles. Tasks associated with driving will include but not be limited to: vending, catering, community feeding and special events. Most driving will be unsupervised.
- Delivers excellent customer service when performing driving related duties and works to address any customer concerns; communicates to leadership when issues arise.
- Assists with receiving department deliveries, verifies items against invoices to ensure accuracy of the delivery, inspects received items for damage and informs management of any discrepancies. Assists with inventory control and placing orders as needed, putting away stock in an organized manner according Indiana State Department of Health and Marion County Health Department regulations.
- Ensures the safety of others when operating vehicle lift gates and pallet jacks to load, unload and move product. Follows all Indiana driving laws and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Responsible for the safety of any passengers and Fresh for You Market customers.
- Maintains cleanliness of all department vehicles, refuels vehicles and takes primary responsibility for routine maintenance and communicating issues to leadership. Conducts pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are in good working condition.
- Takes primary responsibility for stocking vending machines located on campus and throughout the city. Will also be responsible for collecting cash from machines and completing accurate required reports.
- Utilizes inventory management system to generate reports and requisitions for deliveries; making adjustments to the system to ensure accuracy at the completion of delivery.
- Takes primary responsibility for parking, setting up and closing down the Fresh for You Market on Wheels bus. These responsibilities include: maintaining water and waste tanks, powering on/off generator and electrical panel breakers
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in the service industry, professional driving, or a warehouse environment
- Serve Safe Certification through the National Restaurant Association required at time of hire or must be obtained within six months of employment
- Experience driving a straight truck up to 26’ long and 15,999 lbs., operating a lift gate, and moving pallets up to 1,200 lbs. from truck to ground height
- Must have and maintain a valid Class B Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Basic math and computer skills are necessary. Must be capable of using a computer, including basic software programs.
- Ability to withstand environmental factors such as extreme heat/cold and precipitation including rain, snow or ice
- Ability to identify chemicals and proper use of equipment
- Ability to follow infection control policies and procedures
- Ability to follow all Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures (ISDH, MCPHD)
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices
- Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in a professional, courteous manner with food service staff ,other hospital staff, and external contacts
- Ability to operate a pallet jack to load and unload pallets on to truck
