FATHERHOOD ENGAGEMENT CLINICIAN

Job Role Summary

This position requires appropriate intervention and provision of services through client assessment, health education, coaching, referral monitoring, facilitation, and follow-up to fathers and their infants up to age 18 months. Provide advocacy, vital resources, and education to expecting fathers and fathers with infants up to 18 months.  To interface with Indianapolis Healthy Start partners and subcontractors to provide education training and technical assistance to community agencies, service providers, and the community at-large as it relates to infant mortality.

Essential Duties

• Provide comprehensive range of evaluation and educational procedures to fathers and their children in accordance with Healthy Start Scope of Work
• Process new enrollees into the program by conducting an IHS risk assessment for all clients with the high-risk assessment tool
• Conduct depression screenings for enrollees by utilizing the Depression Scale as an assessment tool
• Develop supportive relationships with participants and monitor IHS programs for fatherhood engagement improvements
• Provide case management in a coordinated and culturally sensitive approach
• Inform clients of available resources to address medical needs, social needs, WIC, and provide care coordination service.  Also, customize a care plan for support services that may include education goals, etc.
• Supply clients with clinical and educational services regarding Healthy Start objectives. Provide health education that includes the importance of fatherhood and prenatal care throughout a pregnancy, smoking cessation, drug and alcohol abuse, SIDS, feeding practices and breastfeeding support, folic acid/nutrition, immunizations, Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis Treatment (EPSDT), & the importance of healthy behaviors.
• Attend various workshops and conferences to increase awareness and understanding of health-related issues and those related to infant mortality
• Accurately document all required information
• Attend Healthy Start meetings

Associated Job Duties

• Maintains confidentiality of all client records and information as specified by HIPAA
• Identifies new community engagement opportunities that are father engagement-centered
• Responsible for recruiting and engaging a minimum of 30 fathers per year to be evaluated annually according to IHS program data evaluations
• Conduct a minimum of 2 fatherhood engagement events per grant year
• Trained at the appropriate National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) level
• Attend training with subsequent implementation of an evidence based curriculum to address the unique mental health needs of fathers
• Participates in a minimal of two HOPE events, totaling a minimum of 8 hours annually
• Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises in response to public health emergencies, as directed
• Serves on appropriate committees and taskforces as assigned
• Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed
• Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of four 4 hours annually
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, an advanced degree is highly desired; 3-5 years experience in case management, social services, or maternal and child health

Licenses/Certifications Required

• Professional Licensure eligible within 2 years (optional)

• Knowledge of health education practices
• In-depth knowledge of community resources
• Judgment required in problem-solving/working with internal/external personnel from multiple organizational levels
• Attention to detail in documentation of client encounters

Working Environment

• Frequent local travel to perform in-home therapeutic visits.
• Some physical effort associated with filing, carrying of supplies for health fairs, travel between office and meetings/ home visits.
• Required to travel both in-county and out-of-county for the coordination of program initiatives
