Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedule, using prescribed methods, and the 7-Step Cleaning Procedure
- Empties and cleans waste receptacle as needed, removes trash and relines baskets
- Removes all soiled linen and delivers to soiled linen chute or soiled linen room
- Dusts high horizontal surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, curtain rods, ceiling vents, etc.
- Wipes and disinfects all horizontal surfaces, furniture, window sills, ledges, railings and equipment as specified
- Mops and dries floors in rooms, corridors, stairs, elevators and offices; cleans and polishes kick-plates
- Vacuums all carpets as scheduled in assigned areas using either an upright or canister vacuum cleaner
- Spot cleans walls, cabinet sides, windows, doors and door frames; polishes metal surfaces
- Cleans restroom fixtures including sinks, feminine hygiene containers, urinals, toilets, tubs, showers and mirrors
- Polishes chrome/metal fixtures; runs water in the showers/sinks for ten minutes; ensures the emergency pull cord is hanging without touching the floor, instead of tied to the rail
- Replenishes supplies in areas needed (paper towels, toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer, etc.)
- Removes linen from beds, cleans and disinfects every inch of the beds, mattresses and bed rails; remakes beds on transfer or discharge; cleans and remakes on-call room beds
- Adjusts draperies, shades and blinds; arranges furniture in its proper location
- Polishes metal fixtures and stainless steel walls, doors and corner guards so that they are free of finger prints and smudges
- Cleans spills observed or upon request
- Mixes cleaning agents in accordance with oral/written instructions in order to avoid damage to floors, walls and furnishings, and to prevent harm to self and others
- Observes and reports needed repairs of equipment, furniture, buildings and fixtures
- Maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness, safety, organization and infection prevention; has repairs made when needed; sets up cart according to policy
- Keeps janitor closet clean and orderly, with all liquids always stored on bottom shelf and all paper products in their original containers; does not store personal items in closet
- Completes daily work assignments; may require additional time due to heavy workload
- Follows established break procedures and stays in assigned area
- Maintains thorough, detailed work, and high quality of cleaning
- Completes work orders and/or communicates areas in need of improvement to supervisor
- Provides comments and ideas on how work processes can be improved
Job Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, understand and execute written instructions in English
- Customer service, hospitality, and/or healthcare related experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Maintains knowledge and complies with all Joint Commission, OSHA and other local, state and federal government regulations
- Ability to lift, push and pull 20 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
- Ability to work while standing on a ladder
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to operate various cleaning equipment (i.e., upright and canister vacuum cleaners)
- Ability to operate furniture-moving equipment such as a desk mover, file cabinet mover, etc.
- Ability to work mandatory overtime when requested
