Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

We are seeking a collaborative and experienced Employee Relations Consultant who is passionate about fostering positive workplace relationships, ensuring policy compliance, and supporting leaders and employees through complex and often sensitive situations. Supporting the Workforce

This role functions as a support position within the Human Resources department, working closely with HR leadership, HR Shared Services, and employee engagement partners. The Employee Relations Consultant helps support consistent HR practices and day‑to‑day operations while gaining hands‑on experience in employee relations, engagement, and HR support functions.

 

The Employee Relations Consultant provides day‑to‑day Human Resources support to employees and leaders by assisting with the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures, and workplace practices. This role supports routine employee relations needs, helps promote consistent HR processes, and contributes to employee engagement efforts across the organization.

 

Working closely with HR leadership and HR Shared Services, this position serves as an approachable and reliable resource for employees and leaders. It is well‑suited for an HR professional looking to continue building experience in employee relations and workforce support within a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a point of contact for employees and leaders with questions related to HR policies, procedures, and workplace processesAssist employees and supervisors with problem‑solving related to employee relations concerns.
 
  • Support employee relations investigations by gathering information, documenting details, summarizing findings, and escalating sensitive or complex issues to HR leadership.
  • Assist HR leadership with corrective action and performance improvement documentationRespond to unemployment inquiries, assist with unemployment hearings, and support tracking and reporting of unemployment claims.
  • Coordinate with the third‑party FMLA vendor to support administration of leaves of absence.
  • Track and assist with reporting exit interview data and employee turnover information.
  • Respond to employee requests received through HR Shared Services within two (2) business days.
  • Participate in employee engagement initiatives and committees, including planning events such as:
    • Employee Appreciation Week
    • Distinguished Ambassador Dinner
    • Retirement and recognition events
    • Colleagues Care initiatives
  • Attend meetings at various Eskenazi Health locations as neededPerform other HR‑related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Accredited Bachelor’s degree in social science, humanities, business or related degree plus at least two (2) years of experience; OR Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources/Employee Relations/Employee Engagement may be accepted in lieu of education

 

•    Working knowledge of employment laws
•    SHRM-CP/PHR certification desirable 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of basic employee relations and Human Resources processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective listening and interpersonal skills. 
 
Ability to:
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Work accurately and tactfully in a fast‑paced environment
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality, including in sensitive situations
  • Use sound judgment and recognize when issues should be escalated
  • Work independently with guidance from HR leadership
  • Gather information and assist with basic data tracking and reporting

 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to learn and use HR systems including SuccessFactors, Kronos, OnBase, and e‑learning platforms
