Job Role Summary
This full-time position is responsible for managing epidemiologic support within HHC and for assigned partner and collaborating organizations, including:
  • Assigning, prioritizing, and monitoring work for epidemiology staff.
  • Budget management and expense approval.
  • Prioritizing projects and tasks to best address the departments' needs and fulfill the agency's mission.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with personnel in universities and other partner agencies to initiate and coordinate public health activities.
  • Developing and maintaining expertise in relevant public health issues.
  • Identifying needs for data, communicating with external agencies in order to secure data, and establishing processes to secure the data
  • Designing, conducting, and interpreting statistical analyses and program evaluations, creating evaluation sections for grant proposals
  • Apply for, oversee, and manage grants and research studies.
  • Preparing and delivering reports and presentations on health issues and statistics for professional and lay audiences
  • Collaborating with HHC staff and other organizations to assure the success of programs and projects
  • Represent the epidemiology group in organization-wide initiatives such as Emergency Preparedness, Quality Improvement, or Accreditation
  • Provide epidemiologic support for certain MCPHD program areas, as assigned.
Education/Licensure/Certifications/Experience & Special Skills:
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Public Health or related discipline. Concentration in Epidemiology preferred.
  • Five or more years post-graduate experience in public health/evaluation work, preferably in a health department.
  • Local health department experience preferred.
  • Experience with computerized data analysis and data management.
  • Experience with personnel management
  • Ability to lead a team in an epidemiology project.
  • Experience analyzing health data, such as birth and death certificate data or outbreak investigation surveys.
