Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
About the Role
We're seeking a visionary leader to step into the role of Director, Oncology Services & Senior Care. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of our specialty clinics by driving operational excellence, strategic growth, and financial sustainability. The Director will play a key role evaluating current structures, identifying new revenue opportunities, and enhancing practice efficiency. As a trusted liaison between physicians, advanced practice professionals, and leadership, the Director will foster collaboration and ensure our mission--Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve-- is reflected in every aspect of our operations. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Specialty Medicine, and is ideal for someone who is passionate about serving our community, especially the vulnerable populations of Marion County, and who embodies Eskenazi Health's core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational & Financial Leadership: Direct and oversee day-to-day operations, monitor and manage budgets, financial performance, and resource utilization to ensure cost-effectiveness. Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities. Lead implementation of process improvements to enhance productivity, efficiency, and throughput.
- Clinical & Quality Oversight: Maintain accountability for clinical operations, nursing practice standards, and patient care delivery. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and accreditation requirements. Participate in and lead performance improvement, quality, and patient experience initiatives. Support development and implementation of care models, clinical protocols, and practice standards, participate in incident review, risk mitigation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Strategic Leadership & Growth: Participate in strategic planning and execution for specialty care services and program development. Identify opportunities for clinic expansion, redesign, and service optimization. Collaborate with Medical Directors to implement strategic initiatives and improve access to care. Support growth in clinic and procedural volumes while maintaining operational efficiency.
- People Leadership & Team Development: Lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary teams including clinic managers, nursing leaders, and support staff. Ensure appropriate staffing models, scheduling, and workforce optimization. Partner with Human Resources to address personnel matters, staff development, and performance management. Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Productivity & Planning: Partner with VP to set productivity targets and cost controls; lead special projects; apply critical thinking to resolve policy gaps and operational challenges.
- Provider Engagement: Participate in recruitment; support provider retention and performance; position practices for success in care management and payer contracting.
- Practice Management: Collaborate with providers on efficiency, productivity, and compliance with hospital standards.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will hold a masters degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or Business Administration, or Public Health. We are seeking a candidate with at least five years of leadership experience in oncology, senior care, or complex specialty services with strong knowledge of oncology care models, chronic disease management, and the needs of aging populations. Additionally, the incumbent must have a valid Indiana driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
