Job Role Summary

The Dental Assistant /EFDA (Expanded Functions Dental Assistant) assists the dentist or dental hygienist. This position is responsible for exposing and processing X-rays, performs Expanded Restorative Dental procedures. The Dental Assistant/EFDA performs patient intake.  The Dental Assistant/EFDA successfully demonstrates compliance with quality assurance, improvement and safety requirements. This position consistently shows initiative, efficiency, problem solving skills, high attention to detail, and friendly customer service skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Customer Services

Quality
•    Keeps the operatory neat and clean during procedures and disinfects thoroughly before each patient arrives. Keeps hand pieces properly maintained. Ensures that vacuum lines, unit, chair, light, instruments, and tray setups are thoroughly disinfected and properly sterilized at all times.

Productivity
•    Restocks rooms as necessary
•    Provides patient management for the dental department

Operational Efficiency
•    Takes vital signs and reviews patient health history, updating as necessary
•    Lays out necessary instruments for procedure
•    Assists the dentist or dental hygienist in transfer of instruments utilizing approved dental assisting principles. Assists the operator in preparation and delivery of dental materials
•    Exposes and processes x-rays and duplicates when necessary. Ensures all x-rays are suitable for diagnosis
•    Performs restorative dentistry procedures within scope of certification or training

Compliance
•    Assists the Health Center Manager on infection control, regulatory readiness for The Joint Commission, OSAP, OSHA and ADA guidelines
•    Handles protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA)
•    Maintains strict confidentiality and respect the privacy of others

Financial Sustainability
•    Orders and maintains inventory of dental supplies according to purchasing policies and procedures for EHC
 

Job Requirements

•    High School Diploma or equivalent
•    Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program or CDA required
•    Dental Radiograph certification with the State of Indiana
•    Training in Expanded Restorative Dentistry with the ability to place and restore dental fillings required
•    Certification for coronal polishing is valuable
•    Bilingual in English and Spanish valuable
•    Previous experience within a dental clinic valuable

•    Exhibits hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity when working with patients and/or equipment
•    Ability to:

•    Knowledge of dental procedures, medical terminology, dental equipment and supplies
