Education

Must be seeking master’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Science, public policy, public health, or a related field.


Rate of Pay: 

This is an unpaid internship - Students receive complimentary parking, career assessments and letters of recommendation.  Students are encouraged to seek academic credit.

          

Summary:

Seeking a self-motivated masters-level student looking to develop their skills in data analytic processes and evaluation. The Data Steward and Security Intern will ensure the accuracy, quality, and security of data hosted by Eskenazi Health. The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Analytics Manager and/or team leads and will work closely with Data Governance and Security teams to support data management initiatives, monitor compliance with data policies, and contribute to enhancing the overall data security. This hands-on internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in data governance, data quality, data classification, and information security best practices. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in documenting and maintaining data governance policies and procedures.
  • Support data quality initiatives by identifying, analyzing, and helping resolve data discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Assist in reviewing and improving security controls to ensure data protection and compliance with regulations such as HIPAA.
  • Help maintain accurate records and prepare reports or presentations related to data governance, data quality, and data security initiatives.
  • Analyze data, automate data processes, and enhance data quality efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, address security concerns, and communicate progress and challenges.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging data privacy and security regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Participate in weekly analytics meetings and mentorship meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 
Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Science, public policy, public health, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of data management concepts, data governance principles, and data security best practices.
  • Familiarity with database structures and an interest in data modeling and warehousing concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The applicant must be able to commit to a full year. The internship may be extended depending on interest, performance, and business need.
  • The applicant must be willing to travel to Eskenazi Health every Tuesday.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on assigned tasks.

Requirements:

  • Intern must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of the application, interview, hospital volunteer orientation, and position specific departmental training.
  • Intern will be required to submit to criminal background inquiry, national governmental sanction check, child abuse clearance, sexual offender registry clearance and an Occupational Health Screening.


Time Commitment:

  • The applicant must be able to commit to a full year. The internship may be extended depending on interest, performance, and business need.
  • This role is primarily remote; however, applicant is expected to report to Eskenazi Health weekly on Tuesdays.
  • Can be completed on either a part-time or full-time basis dependent on personal and academic goals and business need.
