Job Role Summary
The Nutrition Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, managing and the evaluation of individual and community health programs using evidence based curriculums that support the priorities of the Manager. In addition, the Coordinator will provide education in the community by facilitating groups, health fairs, community networking and collaboration. This position requires the ability to collect and analyze data, identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments. Evening and weekend events will be scheduled.
Essential Duties
Program Leadership for Fruits and Veggies: More Matters™/Little Farmer’s Market/Head Start Education:
- Present curriculum information with activities to Head Start and preschools, and children in Marion County elementary schools, MCPL story time programs and summer camps, as requested, including administration of pre- and post-test to students.
- Adapt program to teach to students of diverse population at age-appropriate levels.
- Maintain curriculum, ensuring content is current and relevant to target audience.
- Develop materials to support the programs, as needed, maintaining continuity of instruction among curriculum levels.
- Train teachers, interns/students, nurses, and other health professionals, as requested, to deliver the curriculum.
- Regularly evaluate and validate the efficacy of the program in conjunction with MCPHD/MCH.
- Gather materials for curriculum:
- Prepare teacher and parent packets; make copies of handouts; as needed.
- Purchase supplies needed for adequate teaching and organization.
- Review and inspect teaching resources for use at each session.
- Pick up needed food items from purveyor and prepare for the appropriate session.
- Maintain requirements for national recognition of More Matters program.
- Assist Nutrition Service Manager in review of Library Foundation contracts.
Essential Duties cont'd
Program Assistant Leadership for the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program:
- Purchase and distribute all curriculum materials including coach boxes, manuals and program equipment.
- Manage inventory and distribution of coach and program supplies.
- Update GOTR of Marion county website as needed.
- Data collection and information management of rosters, girls, numbers and revenue.
- Manage coach files, site files and other program related paperwork.
- Collect, order and deliver GOTR t-shirts.
Program Leadership: Commodity Supplemental Food Program (SCFP):
- Create educational materials/games/lesson plans providing an emphasis on nutrition and wellness for program participants.
- Coordinate with CICOA (Central Indiana Council On Aging) SCFP administrator to schedule and promote nutrition education sessions at SCFP distribution sites as defined by ISDH contract of services.
- Supervise Community Nutrition Educator in delivery of scheduled nutrition education/cooking demonstration services at distribution sites.
Associated Job Duties
- Create educational materials/programs providing an emphasis on nutrition and wellness (i.e. articles, curricula, posters, handouts, displays and visual aids) to be used at health fairs, exhibitions, community events, etc.
- Design monthly newsletter (Produce Press) on benefits of fruits and vegetables.
- Represent MCPHD on internal/external committees for improvement of the community nutrition and wellness status as needed.
- Collect and analyze data feedback from community to determine nutrition curriculum needs and priorities. Maintain databases, mailing lists and departmental reporting forms. Report findings to Nutrition Service Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client records and information, as specified by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and complete annual HIPPA training.
- Complete annual Blood Borne Pathogens training.
- Complete the required National Incident Command System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) level training, participate in responding to public health emergencies as directed.
- Procure current nutrition education materials for community nutrition staff and maintain nutrition education curriculum resource room.
- Attend meetings and conferences as required to maintain credentials/licensure.
- Complete training and maintain special event software (HOPE system) for Nutrition Service Program.
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness.
- Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.

Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in nutrition, health science, public health, or related field is required.
- Expertise with nutrition and wellness education.
- 1-3 years previous experience in nutrition education and curriculum design.
- Must possess or have access to reliable transportation for in-county travel.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Must have valid Indiana driver’s license.
- CHES certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be capable of presenting to a variety of populations in a wide array of locations such as schools, daycares, businesses, senior centers, and other community settings where a community nutrition program might be requested.
- Excellent verbal and written skills; excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Internet Explorer, and office equipment such as fax machine, copier, and telephone.
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to take initiative and prioritize workload.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation.
- Cultural competence.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing program/department needs and activities.
Working Environment
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
- Must be able to transport educational materials, demo foods and equipment or AV equipment necessary for the Fruits & Veggies – More Matters™ curriculum and all other community nutrition programming.
- Potential exposure to communicable illness and disease resulting from frequent public contact and travel throughout the community.
- Some exposure to warm temperatures in schools or settings that lack air conditioning.
