Job Role Summary
The Director of Health Equity and Culture Engagement will establish and build a health equity and culture engagement program within Health and Hospital Corporation. The Director will be accountable for the overall development of measures and key performance indicators which will result in the embedding of an I.D.E.A. listic culture within Health and Hospital Corporation: a culture that incorporates the BIG I.D.E.A. of Inclusion. Diversity. Equity. Accessibility. In addition to developing key Human Resources measures and data points, the role requires the ability to approach the work based on a thorough mapping of the health equity field and an understanding of framing and narrative in achieving health equity goals (both internal and external) and staff/culture goals relevant to elevating the IDEAlistic culture. The Director will set the strategic direction of the program objectives and lead engagement with partners to achieve impact. They will also collaborate with key internal stakeholders to ensure that policies, procedures, and approaches are attained to achieve the overall goals of the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility. Central to the role, the Director will strategize and lead engagement with partners in Human Resources and the health equity field, while building out groups to inform and guide research, mobilization, and communication activities. The Director will also manage the strategic operations, ensuring that all activities are integrated, executed at a high level, and on a timeline.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in human resources, or management within organizations, background in health equity, including with non-governmental organizations approaching health equity through a social determinants of health lens. They will also have existing relationships with key organizations, agencies, and individuals across the field, and experience working with partners and building and managing partner relationships. Significant experience working on inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility issues including racial justice, LGTBQIA2S+ inclusion, gender equality, inclusive growth, human rights, or other related issue areas. They will have familiarity with framing and narrative research, and some experience using framing and/or narrative to advance health equity outcomes. They will be intellectually curious, innovative, adaptable, and insightful; and be committed to principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
The role involves promoting awareness of health disparities and advocating for the development and revision of programs and policies to reduce institutional and environmental barriers to health equity, both internally and externally. The incumbent in this role serves as a collaborating partner with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to design and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that help to improve the health status of underserved and disparate populations. Work involves developing, through collaboration, policy processes and recommendations to identify opportunities to address health equity initiatives and ensuring that public health programs, practices, and services meet health equity goals and objectives. Central to the role is the review and formation of policy and program goals and objectives.
Essential Duties
- Audit current talent management practices and identify ways to evolve our practices by staying current with the latest trends and providing recommendations and insights based on industry best practices.
Specific areas of focus include:
- Support the development of metrics for Human Resources dashboards.
- Revamp our performance evaluation system to align our core values and expectations with an IDEAlistic approach.
- Development of the BIG I.D.E.A. presentations for integrations into new employee orientations
- Development of Employee Resource Group (ERG) deployment strategies
- Development of strategies to build IDEA within performance evaluation processes
- Work with the Vice President on the implementation of Social Determinants of Health strategies that impact the patient populations and communities we serve.
- Ensure staff have access to opportunities for meaningful professional growth and development.
- Review our internal and external hiring processes to ensure equitable practices across the organization.
- Develop new strategies to build a high-quality and diverse talent pipeline and ensure that all roles are filled with a lens of inclusion.
- Collaborate to refine our selection process with a keen eye toward alignment with our mission and core values, with a particular focus on ensuring alignment with our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
- Deploy knowledge of essential DEI-based approaches and methodologies and a strong understanding of critical trends in the field of Human Resources and Health Equity.
- Strategize and lead engagement with partners in Human Resources and the health equity field, while building out groups to inform and guide research, mobilization, and communication activities.
- Amplify and socialize the Social Determinants of Health and how it relates to developing an equitable county and city.
Associated Job Duties
Represent the organization at related external events to gather exposure and information related to the role and the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 7-10 years of experience in program oversight required, including direct experience working in or with community-based organizations and key internal stakeholders.
- A minimum of 3 years working in a healthcare-focused organization, with human resources and/or management experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership and success in engagement and mobilization of community outreach efforts at the individual, community, and organizational levels required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing outcomes and developing and using data to inform continuous improvement and decision-making.
Working Environment
The position requires travel in-state travel and a valid driver’s license.
