Job Role Summary
This position is responsible for serving as Dental Health Summer Intern for the Marion County Public Health Department’s (MCPHD) Dental Health (DH) Program. Performs administrative, general/dental office/clinic and secretarial tasks.
Essential Duties
- Assist DH director and DH coordinator with project creation, planning and impemetation;
- Assist with policy documentation and preparation for entry into PolicyStat.
- Take and prepare meeting minutes for all meetings presented by the dental director/dental coordinator.
- Assist DH administrative asssistant with general/clinical supply inventory system.
- Work in a dental clinic occasionally, depending on staffing needs, to assist office assistants with data entry and front desk tasks; assist dental assistants with room set-up and tear down; prepare instruments for sterilzation or stock sterilized instruments and supplies.
- Take and record vitals, such as temperature, height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse on patients prior to them being seen for treatment; chart for the dental hygienist and/or dentist.
- Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Creates a favorable, positive work environment; identifies and responds to customer and co-worker needs in a courteous, professional, respectful and timely manner.

- Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as assigned.
- Reads, has knowledge of and complies with all Personnel Policies and Procedures as established by Health and Hospital Corporation.
- Reads, acknowledges and complies with dental department quality assurance/improvement policies and procedures in accordance with the ADA, OSHA, CDC, State of Indiana and MCPHD guidelines, regulations or statutes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certifications/Experience:
- Specialized education/training in dentistry is a plus.
- Current CPR Certification is a plus.
- Valid Indiana drivers’ license and reliable transportation.
- Fluent in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge in utilizing computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of dentistry and dental assisting is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of various socio-economic groups.
- Ability to interact effectively and tactfully in complex, uncertain, and stressful situations with patients, personnel, and the public.
- Ability to respond calmly and steadily to the sight of blood, needles, and crisis situations; ability to maintain a controlled demeanor.
