Job Role Summary

The Decision Support Analyst is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial and operational data across Health & Hospital’s governmental and enterprise funds. In this role, you will develop and maintain financial models, create pro forma statements, and collaborate with various departments, including Accounting and IT, as well as divisions within the organization) to ensure data accuracy. This position also plays a key role in developing annual budgets, conducting monthly financial reviews, and informing strategic decision-making through data-driven insights.


Day in the Life: You will spend much of your day reviewing and analyzing monthly governmental and enterprise fund financials, collecting and validating large datasets, preparing reports in tools like Power BI and forecasting performance to support operational and strategic decisions. You will also support budgeting processes that are presented to the HHC Board of Trustees, Indianapolis City County Council, and Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for approval, converting statutory requirements into operational budgets. Beyond routine reporting, you may tackle special projects such as risk analyses, sensitivity modeling, and capital planning, collaborating with the Decision Support team to optimize outcomes for the organization.

Essential Duties

Financial Analysis & Reporting (70%) 

  • Review, analyze, and monitor the financial performance of Health & Hospital’s governmental and enterprise funds monthly.
  • Develop financial models and perform sensitivity or risk analyses on key assumptions to inform decision-making.
  • Create proforma financial statements to project future performance, including revenue and expense forecasting.
  • Provide analytical, forecasting, and reporting support for strategic initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with Accounting and other departments to ensure accurate data collection and reconciliation for monthly reporting.

Budgeting & Planning (20%) 

  • Support the annual operating and capital budgeting processes, including developing and refining budget assumptions.
  • Assist in preparing the statutory budget that must be submitted for HHC Board of Trustees, Indianapolis City County Council, and Indiana Department of Local Government Finance approval, transitioning finalized allocations into a working operational budget.
  • Evaluate return on investment and net present value for proposed projects or capital expenditures, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

Continuous Learning & Special Projects (10%) 

  • Stay current with data analytics tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, and SAP Analytics Cloud, to optimize reporting and decision-making capabilities.
  • Work with IT and software vendors to enhance data feeds, troubleshoot system issues, and implement new features.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the department and organization.

Associated Job Duties

  • Coordinate with the Decision Support department and other stakeholders to ensure consistent data quality and reporting standards.
  • Contribute to internal and external benchmarking efforts by gathering, cleaning, and analyzing relevant datasets.
  • Provide support for ad hoc requests, financial presentations, and special reports as directed by leadership.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • Preferred Experience: 1–2 years of professional experience in accounting or finance; exposure to the healthcare industry (including internships, projects, and prior roles) is a plus.
  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets, create financial models, and present findings to stakeholders.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Preferred: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
  • Additional relevant certifications or credentials in data analytics/business intelligence are advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Financial & Data Analysis

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced formulas and pivot tables), Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or SAP Analytics Cloud for creating dashboards and visualizing data.
  • Ability to conduct thorough ROI and net present value analyses for projects and capital requests.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Working knowledge of annual budget cycles, capital planning, and variance analysis.
  • Capable of creating multi-year projections and assisting with statutory budget requirements.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting data-driven insights to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with Accounting, IT, and other departments.

Problem-Solving & Initiative

  • Skilled at identifying data anomalies and investigating root causes.
  • Self-starter attitude with a willingness to propose improvements to existing processes, methods, and tools.

Confidentiality & Professionalism

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive or confidential financial information in accordance with corporate procedures.

Working Environment

Hybrid Schedule: Combination of on-site and remote work as determined by organizational policy.
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary with occasional travel for meetings or presentations.
Occasional Travel: Possible off-site visits for trainings or cross-departmental collaborations.
