Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

Help develop and implement the Ventanilla de Salud (VDS) program in order to improve the well-being of Mexicans living in the United States of America, specifically in Marion County and any territories assigned to the Mexican Consulate of Indianapolis. The scope of work activities are designed to improve access to primary and preventive services, reduce the use of medically unnecessary emergency services and establish the program network as a sustainable source of information, education and access. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission:  Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County
  • Provides preventive health education to program participants and their families
  • Facilitates presentations to target audience as requested by VDS program objectives
  • Informs clients of health and community resources that are available to them in English and Spanish
  • Manages data and updates in an Excel spreadsheet weekly
  • Prepares daily reports for the consulate and Mexican government
  • Prepares, forecasts, and manages budget 
  • Submits and reconciles budget reports 
  • Coordinates logistic aspects of various events such as workshops, health screening, health fairs, physical activity and other quarterly and yearly events
  • Performs activities related to the procurement of in-kind donations which improve the VDS program
  • Recruits, trains and manages schedule for volunteers and provides training 
  • Networks with local Community Health Centers and organizations involved in helping and offering free resources to the Hispanic community in order to form partnerships and alliances
  • Participates in webinars, conferences and other educational opportunities to be well-informed on health and other issues affecting the Hispanic communities, such as diabetes, obesity and other illnesses 
  • Seeks grant opportunities to enhance the VDS program outreach
  • Provides education to the community related to the importance of immunizations 
     

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree preferred. A minimum of two years of experience working with community organizations is preferred
  • Must be bilingual (English and Spanish) and bicultural in Hispanic and North American cultures (more specifically USA and Mexico)
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance
  • Health worker preferably with promoter certification
  • Certification as CMA, CMCA, CNA, RN or 2 years or more in a clinical setting is strongly recommended
  • Possesses a good understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to operate a basic blood pressure machine
