Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Informatics Specialist II (CIS II) reports to the Clinical Informatics Specialist Supervisor and serves as a key liaison between clinical departments, Quality, Analytics, and Information Services (IS). This role supports the identification, evaluation, and implementation of clinical applications across the health system. The CIS II collaborates with clinical staff, providers, and leadership to optimize the use of health information technology (HIT), improve workflows, and support quality patient outcomes through system enhancements, training, and ongoing user support.
Essential Job Functions
- Acts as a bridge between IT/IS leadership and clinical teams to lead and support clinical systems initiatives and projects.
- Develops working knowledge of clinical information systems and infrastructure to support troubleshooting, upgrades, and training efforts.
- Gathers and validates input from end users to ensure clinical and operational needs are reflected in implementation plans.
- Evaluates the impact of system changes on clinical workflows and patient care delivery processes.
- Proactively identifies system or workflow issues and collaborates with stakeholders to design and implement effective solutions.
- Supports system standardization and optimization processes across the organization.
- Conducts rounds in clinical areas to provide support, assess workflows, and gather user feedback.
- Assists with prioritization of requests and coordination of larger project initiatives with project management teams.
- Promotes effective adoption and utilization of the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collaborates with training teams to educate providers, nursing, pharmacy, and ancillary staff on workflows and system updates.
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures related to clinical systems use.
- Supports initiatives that enhance evidence-based practice, patient safety, and workflow efficiency.
- Develops functional specifications to support design and implementation of clinical applications.
- Facilitates workflow and process changes to optimize new or enhanced systems.
- Ensures compliance with patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
- Mentors CIS I team members and pursues opportunities for teaching, coaching, and professional development.
Job Requirements
Nursing Background:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required
- Epic certification or training experience preferred
Other Clinical Background:
- Relevant clinical degree or certification required
- Epic certification or training experience preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of three years in a clinical setting required
- At least one year of experience in clinical system implementation, redesign, or process improvement required
