Job Role Summary
Eskenazi Health is seeking an experienced and passionate Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Clinical Educator.
The CST Clinical Educator is responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and use of information technologies applicable to the operating room.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Assess the environment to determine educational needs of perioperative personnel.
- Plan and provide education for all perioperative personnel in the scrub role.
- Develops, coordinates, and delivers new staff orientation, as well as orientation for experienced CST hires in the operating room.
- Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curricula related to clinical competencies, departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and use of information technologies.
- Provides educational resources and acts as a clinical resource for scrub personnel using evidence-based standards.
- Facilitates and monitors perioperative personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Facilitates and monitors personnel compliance with regulatory and professional organizations, including AST, AORN, AAMI, TJC, FDA, CDC, and OSHA.
- Collaborates with managers and staff to assess the learning needs and competency of staff.
- Mentors team members
- Assists staff in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement measures.
- Establishes and monitors staff competency for all aspects of instrument handling, utilization, decontamination, and sterilization.
- Collaborates with Perioperative RN Clinical Educator, Service line coordinators, and Perioperative Manager to develop monthly, quarterly, and annual department education plans.
- Assist staff members in assessing their individual learning needs and styles.
- Maintain personnel education data and records as required by state, organizational, and unit requirements.
- Pursue professional growth and participate in unit and organizational activities
Job Requirements
- CST certification
- 5 years of experience as a CST in the hospital setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of AST, AORN, AAMI, The Joint Commission, CDC, FDA, and OSHA standards.
• Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
