Job Role Summary

This position is responsible for directing/evaluating all community based public health services within a geographic district; ensures that MCPHD objectives are accomplished within area of responsibility; ensures independent responsibilities under general supervision. This position is responsible for direct supervision of district office staff. This position is responsible for the daily management of a district health office and additional satellite offices. The Coordinator interacts with multiple health department departments to ensure that the public health activities are being performed to safe guard the health of the citizens of Marion County.

Essential Duties

Responsibility 1:  60%

  • Directly supervises/guides/evaluates performance of assigned staff.
  • Ability to supervise a diverse staff.
  • Assigns staff for client referrals, clinics and Marion County Schools.
  • Consults with staff on client caseload.
  • Interviews/selects for employment, initiates disciplinary actions; approves vacation and sick leaves.
  • Assumes leadership role in staff development and orientation.
  • Sets clear performance expectations for employees – holds staff accountable and willing to ensure accountability by following disciplinary process, if needed.
  • Open to recommendations and suggestions for changing/improving the work processes.
  • Reviews staff documentation and electronic data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintains electronic time records for staff.
  • Coordinates staff work assignments to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Works with new staff on orientation to office and job expectations.
  • Accessible to staff to provide guidance and leadership.

Responsibility 2:  20%

  • Interfaces/collaborates with other MCPHD Administrators/management/staff in developing and implementing MCPHD programs.
  • Supply staff to implement chronic disease programs, i.e., Heart Alive, asthma initiative, etc.
  • Supply staff to monitor communicable disease events.
  • Supply staff for refugee clinic, health fairs, etc.

Responsibility 3: 15%

  • Plans/implements/directs/coordinates/evaluates community based public health activities within geographic district.
  • Primarily responsible for maintaining and facilitating operations of the DHOs on a daily basis.
  • Works with universities and community agencies to coordinate student activities.
  • Coordinates involvement of staff in the scheduling of community events.
  • Arranges for the most efficient handling of client related problems.
  • Monitors the request for supplies and equipment.
  • Communicate with Administrator on a frequent basis on DHO activities  

Responsibility 4:  5%

  • Serves on committees; attends periodic staff meetings; attends inservices/seminars to increase job knowledge.
  • Conducts periodic staff meeting and assumes responsibility for communicating pertinent information with staff in order to provide optimum services to clients.  
  • Provides staff with current information on MCPHD policies and procedures and events.
  • Attends required/requested/mandated Department/MCPHD/Community meetings. Prepares reports as requested.
  • Participates in 8 hours of health fair activities per year.
     

Associated Job Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee will protect and maintain confidentiality of client and employee medical and personnel information which may be obtained in the course of job related provision of care or employment.
  • Employee may need to remove confidential information from work place setting to transport to another designated setting. If the information is removed, it must be protected and secured.
  • Must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training - 100, 200, 700 and 800.
  • In the event of a public health emergency, employee must be available to work on week-ends or a schedule that would differ from normal assigned workday.
  • Must participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a NLN accredited school
  • 4 to 8 years previous nursing experience, with supervisory experience preferred
  • Computer skills including typing skills of minimum of 30 words per minute.
  • CPR certified.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse license
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Access to own car and current automobile insurance

  • Work well under pressure – numerous interruptions during the day; frequent requests for staff assignments/consultation

Working Environment

  • Unconfined sitting; attending meetings; standing and walking; steady use of hands and fingers; limited lifting and carrying.
  • May be exposed to substandard and unsanitary living conditions
  • May be exposed to allergens of all types (i.e., pets, dust, smoke, etc.)
  • May be exposed to communicable disease, blood and other bodily fluids.
  • Required to wear N-95 masks in situations where client is considered infectious.
