Job Role Summary
The Coordinator, Specialty Pharmacy Service is responsible for oversight of specialty pharmacy services for Eskenazi Health, including establishment and maintenance of specialty pharmacy accreditation. This position assists with continuous quality improvement and risk management to accomplish the goals and objectives of the pharmacy, and to maintain standard of practice to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs administrative duties in establishing and maintaining specialty pharmacy services:
o Provides oversight of specialty pharmacy accreditation
o Interacts with payers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, providers, and other stakeholders to create visibility for specialty pharmacy services, and establishes relationships that will grow and sustain the business
o Provide oversight of specialty pharmacy network/IT applications
o Develop and maintain policies and procedures for specialty pharmacy services to ensure high quality pharmaceutical care
o Ensures pharmacy staff knowledge and understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements, and organizational standards, policies, and procedures
o Complies with rules and requirements of all regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies - Collaborates with Director of Pharmacy and other managers to coordinate operations in all areas where specialty pharmacy services are provided
o Ensures quality, timely, and efficient specialty pharmacy services that meet the needs of patients
o Executes day-to-day operations in the pharmacy as they pertain to workflow, production quotas, and accuracy of prescription processing
o Assists with inventory management, including monitoring inventory levels, ordering, receiving, and shipping
o Supports ambulatory care personnel to ensure consistency of specialty pharmacy services
o Ensures integration of specialty pharmacy services across the continuum of care to achieve optimal outcomes - Actively participates in planning for the trajectory of the specialty pharmacy
o Identifies, develops, and analyzes quality assurance and improvement indicators for specialty pharmacy services
o Identifies and analyzes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the provision of specialty pharmacy services, and identifies and implements strategies to overcome weaknesses and threats and to capitalize on strengths and opportunities
o Collaborates with Director of Pharmacy and other managers to develop, analyze, and control annual operating/personnel budgets for specialty pharmacy services
o Cost-justifies, develops, implements, and ensures the quality of new and innovative services for the specialty pharmacy program - Demonstrates effective problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner; anticipates services needs and works with an appropriate sense of urgency
- Engages in teaching, professional development, and education of learners; this may include direct instruction, precepting, shadowing experiences, mentorship, in-services, journal clubs, and assistance with research projects, Grand Rounds, committee or professional presentations; learners may include pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, pharmacy staff, and other healthcare professionals
- Remains informed of developments in area of expertise through review of professional literature, attendance at professional organization meetings, seminars, and webinars, and through completion of continuing education
- Maintains professionalism and a personal commitment to advancing the profession through participation in research, publications, lectures, seminars, or poster presentations
Job Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or similar preferred
- PGY1 residency and PGY2 residency preferred
- Licenses/Certification required: Licensure in the State of Indiana or Licensure eligible
- Previous management experience in ambulatory or institutional pharmacy practice preferred
- Participation in continuing education activities to meet licensure requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of pharmacy practice (both inpatient and outpatient settings), federal, state, and local laws related to pharmacy practice with an emphasis on specialty pharmacies
- Ability to conceptualize, implement, and evaluate progressive specialty pharmacy programs and procedures
