Job Role Summary

Responsible for promoting the prevention of chronic diseases by serving as a specialist and advisor for upstream strategies and interventions. Coordinates educational, outreach, and engagement activities to promote objectives of the CDCD funded REACH program at MCPHD. Provides consultation and encouragement for the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines related to breastfeeding initiation and duration, especially within the workspace.

This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor of the contract.  Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and your satisfactory job performance.   For grant-funded positions, additional duties must align with the approved grant scope, budget, and allowable activities, and may not exceed the terms and conditions of the grant.

Essential Duties

  • Provide technical assistance and develop resources on chronic disease prevention strategies including those related to health disparity reduction around breastfeeding support and compliance in the workspace.
  • Meet with worksite and breastfeeding community partners to establish and maintain a working relationship around breastfeeding support in the workplace.
  • Provide resources and technical assistance to worksites on how to best follow the law and support mothers successfully pump at work. Connections to worksites will be made through partnerships established during key informant interviews and Liaison will be able to provide resources to enhance workplace policy and breastfeeding experience at the worksite.
  • Identify at least 4 work sites (at least one site a quarter) that will receive targeted technical assistance to ensure they are following federal guidelines and supporting breastfeeding mothers.
  • Participate in community engagement, and utilize REACH social media channels, vlogs, and other modes of communication as appropriate for breastfeeding promotion and awareness of continuity of care resources.
  • Designs and develops programmatic educational print material and electronic messaging as necessary and requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information: (a breech is reason for termination).
  • Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
  • Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.

Associated Job Duties

  • Functions as team member along with other Chronic Disease Program staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional self-growth and continued development in relevant professional discipline as well as public health practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or 5 years experience in public health or related field.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Current Indiana driver’s license and use of automobile.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic understanding of the structure, operations, policies, and influences of public health systems.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Public health principles and concepts.
    • Institutional policy development.
    • Breastfeeding best practices and principles.

Working Environment

  • Primarily office environment; outreach activities in varied public sites throughout the county.
  • Physical demands include lifting light-weight materials on a routine basis.
